He has a wondrous vision of the world around him. Sullivan is known to many as a singer, entertainer, writer, producer, and 1970s television personality, who was a special correspondent for ABC’s Good Morning America and guest starred on such shows as Designing Women, Highway to Heaven, Fame, and M*A*S*H. He is also the author of eleven books, including his memoir, Adventures in Darkness. Sullivan never believed that he could not play sports just because he was blind, and as a boy he learned to play baseball with the help of his father. Sullivan went on to letter in track and track and to win a national wrestling championship in high school. He also rowed with Harvard University's eight-man crew. More recently, Sullivan runs marathons, competes in triathlons, and climbs mountains, as well as plays golf. About the book, Adventures in Darkness Adventures in Darkness by Tom Sullivan is the hair-raising, heart-warming story of Sullivan's eventful eleventh summer. It opens in the spring of 1959 when a Coast Guard Officer boards a tiny row boat in the busy Boston Harbor, shocked to find the craft manned by three young boys, all of them blind. The three boys had made an escape from their boarding school, first by tying bed sheets together to shimmy out of their window and then taking a boat from the boat house to paddle out into the dangerous shipping lanes. The ringleader of the small gang is the 11-year-old Tom Sullivan, and this is only the first in an amazing series of adventures Tom Sullivan tells in Adventures in Darkness. The Peninsula Center Library is located at 701 Silver Spur Road in Rolling Hills Estates.
