Short biography
Carolyn Fulgenzi was born on 28 July 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, USA, daughter of Janet (McLaughlin) and Andrew Fulgenzi. She graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and completed her undergraduate education at Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. She continued her studies attending Syracuse University receiving her Master’s in English Education. After retiring as a teacher with the Fayetteville-Manlius School District, she joined the faculty at Syracuse University as an adjunct professor in the writing department. Concurrently, she was also teaching at Onondaga Community College.

Carolyn blamed her tenth grade English teacher for nudging her into the writer's life. Sister Rose Terrence insisted that she enter a short story contest sponsored by the Detroit News, and Cara won! Of course, she was thrilled with the award -- a dictionary that still sits on her desk -- but at that time, her goal in life was to become an actress, and eventually, she attained that goal. She married Mr Hanlon, and had three sons: Kevin D., Brian A, and Brendan J. Hanlon. Only after her three sons were born that she turned her full attention to writing again. She sold her first Temptation to Harlequin in 1994, and that book, C.J.'s Defense as Carolyn Andrews, also sits on her desk -- right next to the dictionary. Since 2000, she wrote under the pseudonym of Cara Summers. She believed that her background in theater had influenced her writing, allowing her to create new characters and bring them to life for the reader. She passed away on 10 September 2013.

Book Review
Book Title: No Risk Refused
Book Author: Cara Summers

Introduction: My friend gave me a whole bunch of random novels she found at a bookstore that she didn't want to read, so I decided to pick this book up!

Review:

No Risk Refused was a mysterious romance novel that will hit well with readers - it just didn't with me. Maybe it's because I've read a lot of just mystery books and just romance books, but this book didn't hit a home run with me. I found many of the plot devices/lines to be stereotypical, and I guessed a lot of the book. I also found it to be quite slow in plot movement, which doesn't keep readers like me interested for very long. It took quite a long time to finish this book, and when it was over I was left feeling bland and bored.

That being said, it did have some great parts (I just didn't like it as a whole). The relationship itself between the characters was very sexy and romantic (although the trope or old friendship rekindling into a romance seemed over used within many books). The Scottish legend was a great twist on the typical tropes, and I truly enjoyed it. I don't often see Scottish legends in books like these. The danger, suspense and lore was a great positive aspect of this novel that I would love to see more of in future books! Also, it was incredibly sexy...Gotta love adult, romance reads!

There were many layers within the novel that kept me continuing to read this novel, but the negatives outweighed the positives for me.

There were sections of this novel that had me scratching my head - secret missions being totally public - what's the point of a "secret" mission if everyone knows it?

Overall, it was a good read, but compared to other books I wasn't totally impressed. I would definitely suggest this for romance readers who want a different spin on their novels.

One out of five stars.

The P.I.
3 Stars

P.I. Kit Angelis (who also unnecessarily moonlights as an author) becomes embroiled in a strange case of murder and kidnapping when a beautiful woman suffering from amnesia walks into his office covered in blood, and carrying a recently fired gun, $20,000 in cash, and a wedding dress.

While the characters are appealing and the case is intriguing, the pacing is choppy and the insta-lust is over the top.

Kit and his mystery woman have an immediate attraction and amazing chemistry; nevertheless, their sexual escapades are not all that believable.

As the details surrounding the investigation into the heroine's identity slowly emerge, more and more characters are revealed and it is not always easy keeping track of who is who.

Despite the above-mentioned issues, the book is well written and the story interesting enough to continue with the series with each subsequent installment focusing on one of the other two Angelis brothers - Nik the cop and Theo the defense attorney.
