Short biography
Svava Jakobsdottir, one of Icelands leading writers and feminist politicians, served as a member of the Icelandic parliament from 1971 to 1979. She lived part of her childhood in Canada, where her father was serving as a Lutheran minister. Her published works included three collections of short stories and several novels. She was awarded the Henrik Steffens Prize for literature in 1997.
