14.00-16.00 : Too brave to dream : R. S. Thomas and modern painting
A discussion of Thomas’s late poems in response to a series of modernist paintings, including work by Matisse, Dali, and Henry Moore, considering the nature of the poet’s reflections. The lecture is followed by the launch of the new volume Too Brave to Dream by Bloodaxe Books, who publish these poems for the first time. Edited by Tony Brown and Jason Walford Davies; copies will be available to buy for signing. Presented by Emeritus Professor Tony Brown.

19.30-21.30 : Luminary : music for Elsi by candlelight
Kitty’s Music – an intimate candlelit performance of sounds and songs inspired by Elsi, RS Thomas and the sea. Performed with voice, saxophone and piano. Kitty – voice/saxophone with Dave Jones – piano.

11.30-12.30 : Thomas and Tillich with tea and cake
A conversation about Tillich’s influence on Thomas’s thinking and writing, with Richard Parry and John McEllhenney.
Venue : Hen Blas Café.

12.45-17.30 : Walking in the footsteps of R. S. Thomas
Reading the poetry in the landscape which inspired him. Minibus ride to Sarn Plas; 20 minute visit to the studio; drop off at Rhiw village; walk via Penarfynydd, Llanfaelrhys church, back to Aberdaron. Six miles. Led by Susan Fogarty. Limited to ten walkers.

13.30-16.00 : In the artist’s studio : room for the two
A recreation of the artist’s studio built by Elsi, which later became Thomas’ study. Scheduled 30 minute viewings, maximum 5 people at a time.

19.00-22.00 : Fish, chips and poetry please
Open-mike poetry for all. Read your favourite poem, or put in a request for someone else to read it, whilst enjoying dinner. Naomi’s food is gluten free. Bring your own bottle. Hosted by Naomi Starkey.
