Born in Belgium, this creator became a master of the detective genra through very film noir depictions of the 1950's in France and of harbours he knew for having made his apprenticeship on Marine Merchant boats. During the second world war and unlike the notorious collaboration in the stolen "Le Soir" of HERGE, creator of TINTIN, Tillieux went in hiding to avoid forced labor and was almost arrested by the GESTAPO. After perfecting his Art at several Comic Magazines in BELGIUM, he became scenarist and graphic artist of Gil Jourdan at [SPIROU] magazine.
Fitting to the mishappenings of his detective heroes, he died in a tragic car accident outside the Angouleme International Comic Book festival he helped create and animate. Cars and motorcycles play an important role in his work.
