Reading this novel was a waste of time. Why then did I waste the time? During our usual April stay in Indian Shores, Florida, we signed up to participate in the Indian Shores Library "Read n' Feed" book discussion evening. Some times the book selection leads us to a wonderful title of which we have not previously been aware. Last year's discovery of Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus is an example.

I am assuming this book is intended to be a satirical take down of the CIA and America's sometime questionable foreign policy initiatives. We have Serge who leads a group of friends who literary kill bad people who in this case are CIA operatives who are poorly trained and have questionable morals and ethics and are a threat to people who have become innocent targets of this group.

Dorsey insists on having some of the characters tell incredibly crude stories and their swearing is of a particularly crude variety. I could not find a justification for using it.

Hurricane Punch is an interesting book. It is another book in the series of a serial murderer who escapes being caught, who seems to care about right and wrong, admits that he is mentally ill, who spouts historical information about the state of Florida and really is despicable yet a true hero. There is a sequence of story here concluding with an unexpected ending. Four stars were given to this book on originality alone and good story.

Roughly the first half of Gator A-Go-Go was too much gibberish; I know that that is the bread and butter of these books, but it wasn't really working for me here. So it wasn't until after about 140 pages that the story picked up. The Floridiana was good as always. And Serge’s kindergarten commencement speech was Dorsey at his best, but the first half was mostly dull and obnoxious and when it finally got good it was just okay. Agent Mahoney had a truncated role in this book, but he shined and was by far the best of the lot.… (more)

Absolute insanity. Some seriously laugh-out-loud moments and some utterly ridiculous. Two bad guys (one perpetually high/drunk) commit foul deeds on those who deserve it, like kidnapping a kidnapper in the act. They decide they want to become normal and move across the street from an old friend and his family, and try to emulate their Christmas. Meanwhile, the family has its own hilarious misadventures.
