1st Annual Phil Miller Scholarship and Holiday Open Mic variousBeginning this year, Riverfront Readings will combine its Annual Holiday Open Mic with a tribute to Phil Miller (founder of the Riverfront Readings series) and a benefit for the scholarship fund set up in his name. This year's event will include the dedication of a handcrafted podium built in Phil's honor. Phil, who died in February, was a longtime mainstay of poets and fiction writers in the Kansas City area. All donations from this event will go to the Philip W. Miller Memorial Scholarship Trust, to provide scholarships to English majors. Readers may read one long poem or two short poems, or one very short prose piece, either on holiday and seasonal themes (Christmas, New Year's, winter solstice, cold weather, colds and flu, snow, etc.), or with some connection to Phil Miller. Sign up will take place at the reading. Due to time limitations the number of reading slots may be limited. If you wish to perform music, please contact Carl Bettis in advance at carl.bettis@gmail.com. (caracabe)… (more)
