It's a bit of a hagiograpy given that it's been pulled together by his wife, but none-the-less is definitely worth a look for a Naval scholar.

Apart from anything else he was on Beresford's side against Fisher, and it seems relatively rare to read an account from that side of the lines.

The Gallipoli episode is covered well as is much of the Middle East / Mesopotanian action, which again doesn't normally get much of a mention - beyond Capt. Lawrence of course.

It's also a fascinating glimpse into the social life and circles of the time, which will be of interest to anyone interested in the period, even if not from a naval perspective.… (more)
