An account of five matches played by an Aboriginal team from Point McLeay and Poonindie against various Adelaide club school combinations in 1885, which is then contrasted with a commemorative recreation of one of these matches in 2001.

The only comprehensive history of association and league football in South Australia. It is structured in three parts: the first on the historical development of the game, the second devoted to brief histories of the 10 league clubs, and the third on leading players and administrators. The first book by this author whose subsequent works have been mainly on cricket.
