In honor of African American History Month, two special programs are presented by the Fountain Hills Branch Library, the Fountain Hills Library Association and the River of Time Museum: From 2:00 to 3:00, Dr. Matthew Whitaker will speak about the history of African Americans in Arizona from 1528 to the present. Dr. Whitaker is Associate Professor of History at Arizona State University and author of several books on African American topics. Copies of his book Race Work: The Rise of Civil Rights in the Urban West will be available for sale after the presentation. Reading Lounge Area. From 3:00 to 3:45, all ages will enjoy a performance by the Kawambe-Omowale African Drum & Dance Theatre, offering a glimpse of West African culture through performances of drumming, dancing, singing, and storytelling.
