Flash forward seventeen years. Wilde's memoir, Washed in the Blood, opens in 2009, beginning with his flulike symptoms which ultimately are diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma on his transplanted kidney. In equal measures heartbreaking, inspiring, and humorous, Washed in the Blood recounts Wilde's experiences as he struggles with the loss of his transplanted kidney and the return to dialysis for a second time, and consequently, the impact on his health, family, and the business of living. Jerry Wilde is a professor of educational psychology for Indiana University East. Prior to this academic appointment, he worked as a psychologist where he counseled children who had emotional, behavioral, and learning difficulties. He is best known for his popular book Hot stuff to help kids chill out which is designed to help readers learn to manage their anger.
