This is a delightful memoir of William Halsey Wood by his wife, Florence. The preface is by prominate neo-gothic architect Ralph Adams Cram. "Halsey" was one of the formost Newark, NJ architects in the latter part of the nineteenth century. He designed many churches in his distinctive,esoteric style and his most notable building is perhaps the Peddie Memorial Church in Newark. The book contains a short biography and the story of his plan for the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine in NYC, including illustrations of his sketches, and a watercolor of the finished cathedral, as he invisioned it. Alas,in the end his plan was rejected, an event that Florence Wood believes contributed to her husband's early demise. This book was privately printed by Mrs. Wood and is extremely rare. I would be happy to provide a copy of the book to anyone interested for a nominal cost.… (more)
