The Children's Literature Assembly of the National Council of Teachers of English advocates the centrality of literature for teaching children. The Notable Children's Books in the Language Arts committee of NCTE's Children's Literature Assembly annually selects thirty books (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry) written for children in grades K-8 that best exemplify the criteria established for the Notables Award.
