Award description

The Samuel Johnson Prize (awarded 1999-2015) is one of the world's most prestigious awards for non-fiction writing. It was founded in 1999 following the demise of the NCR Book Award.

The name was changed in 2016 to the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-fiction, after a new sponsor, but still officially administered by the non-profit Samuel Johnson Prize Limited.
