Anne of Austria (1601-1666), Queen Consort of France, was born a Hapsburg archduchess in Spain. In 1615, she married King Louis XIII. The marriage was unhappy partly because Anne did not produce an heir until the birth of the future Louis XIV in 1638. After her husband's death, Anne served as Regent for her son with the help of her chief advisor, Cardinal Mazarin.
