Character description

The beautiful Catherine Noël Verlée (1762–1835) was married firstly at age 15 to George Francis Grand, a gentleman of the British East India Company. In 1797, she became the lover of Charles-Maurice, Prince de Talleyrand, and her marriage to Grand was annulled. The Emperor Napoleon forced Talleyrand to regularize their relationship, and the couple married in 1802. Talleyrand came to resent her and left her in 1814.
