Character description

Catherine de Medici (1519–1589), Queen Consort of France, is one of the most famous women of the Renaissance. She was the daughter of the wealthy Duke of Urbino, Lorenzo II de' Medici and Madeleine de La Tour d'Auvergne. A cousin of Pope Clement VII, he arranged her marriage at age 14 to Henri, the second son of King Francois I of France and Queen Claude. Henri II later became king in 1547. After her husband's death, Catherine served as regent for 3 of their sons in turn
