Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk, 1st Viscount Lisle, KG (c. 1484 – 22 August 1545) was the son of Sir William Brandon and Elizabeth Bruyn. His father was the standard-bearer of Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond (later King Henry VII) and was slain by Richard III in person on Bosworth Field. Charles Brandon became the boon companion and later brother-in-law to King Henry VIII by his 1515 marriage to Henry's sister Mary Tudor. Henry ennobled him and appointed him commander of many military operations. His daughters and granddaughters became potential heirs to the English throne after the death of Henry's only son, Edward VI.
