Description | Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720–1788), also known as "Bonnie Prince Charlie" and "The Young Pretender," was the exiled grandson of the deposed King James II of England. In 1745, he led his followers, known as Jacobites, in an uprising to restore his father (James Francis Edward Stuart, "The Old Pretender") to the throne. They were defeated at the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. See also Charles Edward Stuart, "Bonnie Prince Charlie." |
