Character description

Chiune "Sempo" Sugihara (1900-1986) was a Japanese diplomat who served as his country's vice-consul in Rovno, Lithuania. During World War II, he helped save 3,000 to 6,000 Jews by issuing them transit visas, risking his career and his family's lives. In 1985, Israel named him to the Righteous Among the Nations.
