Character description

Gilbert Vandine Houston (1918-1961), folk singer. Perhaps best known for recordings made with Woody Guthrie. Handsome and possessed of a fine voice, he tied acting but was unable to do well because of his poor eyesight. In the early 1960s, just when it appeared his career would take off, he died of stomach cancer at the age of 42.
