Character description

Clement of Rome (late first century C.E.): Early Bishop of Rome (i.e. Pope) and supposed author of two books, known as I Clement and II Clement. I Clement is indeed early and probably by Clement; II Clement is not. Some authorities esteemed I Clement so highly as to include it in the New Testament, but it was eventually relegated to collections of the "Apostolic Fathers." He is called "Clement of Rome" to distinguish him from an other early writer, Clement of Alexandria.
