Character description

Clym of the Clough: One of the three heroes of the ballad romance "Adam Bell, Clym of the Clough, and William of Cloudesly" (#116 in Francis James Child's collection The English and Scottish Popular Ballads. The ballad is about three archers, and may be related to early versions of the Robin Hood saga. The three are outlaws. William goes to visit his wife and is taken. The other two rescue him, perform various other feats, and are pardoned by the King.
