Character description

Cola di Rienzo (c. 1313–1354) was an Italian populist politician, tribune, and would-be ruler of Rome. In the 19th century, he was transformed into a romantic figure by liberals and Italian nationalists who adopted him as a precursor of the Risorgimento.
