Character description

Constance of Brittany (1161–1201) was duchess of Brittany in her own right. She was married first to Geoffrey Plantagenet, the son of King Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine. The couple had 3 children, including a son, Arthur. He disappeared mysteriously while imprisoned by forces of his uncle, King John. Shakespeare wrote some of his most deeply affecting speeches for the distraught and grieving Constance.
