Character description

(Fictitious character) Dorian Gray is a fictional character and the protagonist of Oscar Wilde's 1891 novel The Picture of Dorian Gray. He is an aristocratic Victorian man. Dorian Gray is described as an innocent young man at the beginning of the novel. Once he meets Lord Henry Wotton, he is subjected to a hedonistic and immoral lifestyle. These sinful deeds take their toll on Dorian's portrait, transforming its face into one of cruelty and ugliness, while he continues to look like a handsome young man. In the end, Dorian decides to destroy the portrait and dies from a stab wound to the heart—the place where he struck the picture. He is discovered by his staff, identified by his rings, and the picture is returned to its original, beautiful state.
