The Neandertals: Of Skeletons, Scientists, and Scandal by Erik Trinkaus

Character description

Eduoard Dupont was a Belgian geologist surveying the Namur province for the Ministry of the Interior.  In 1865, working in a large cave, Le Trou de la Naulette, he found he found a human lower jaw, ulna (forearm bone), and a metacarpel (hand bone), covered by four stalagmite strata, indicating great antiquity.  Paul Broca declared it to be significant evidence for Darwin's theory.
