Edward IV (1442–1483), King of England, was a major figure in the Wars of the Roses. His reign was interrupted by this dynastic struggle; it's often dated from 1461-1470 and from 1471-his death. His heraldic badges included the sun (or "sun in splendor"), recalling his victory at the Battle of Mortimer's Cross.
