Character description

Gabrielle Émilie Le Tonnelier de Breteuil, marquise du Châtelet (1706–1749) was a French mathematician, physicist, and author. Her greatest achievement is considered to be her translation into French, with her own commentary on the conservation of energy, of Newton's Principia Mathematica. She and Voltaire were long-time lovers and companions. See also her author page on LT.
