Character description

Frances, Duchess of Somerset, née Thynne (1699-1754), was an heiress of her paternal grandfather Thomas Thynne, 1st Viscount Weymouth. In 1713, she married Algernon Seymour, then Earl of Hertford, and became Countess of Hertford. In 1748, the Earl became Duke of Somerset on the death of his father and Frances then became known as Duchess of Somerset. Her poetry was published mostly anonymously or posthumously.
