Character description

Hortense Bonaparte, née de Beauharnais (1783-1837), was the daughter of Empress Josephine by her first husband, a French aristocrat. She was the stepdaughter and great favorite of Napoleon Bonaparte; he married her to his brother Louis Bonaparte, whom he made King of Holland in 1806. The couple's son later became Napoleon III, Emperor of the French.
