Character description

Miss Marple is an elderly spinster living in a cottage in the village of St. Mary Mead. She is constantly knitting. She can seem rather vague and dithering, especially if it is to her advantage, but she is extremely sharp. People who don't know her underestimate her. A close observation of the lives of her fellow villagers has given her a keen understanding of human nature. She often finds a village example that illuminates her problems. She has gradually gained the respect of Scotland Yard.

Miss Marple had a sister, presumably the mother of her nephew Raymond West and her niece, Mabel.
