Character description

Jeanne or Joan, Countess of Burgundy and Queen Consort of France (1292-1330), was the eldest daughter and heiress of Otto IV, Count of Burgundy, and his wife Mahaut of Artois. She married Philip, Count of Poitiers, the future King Philip V of France. In 1314, she was implicated along with her sister Blanche and their cousin Margaret of Burgundy in the adultery scandal known as the Tour de Nesle Affair, but her husband chose not to renounce her. See also Jeanne II, Countess of Burgundy.
