Character description

Judah Philip Benjamin (6 August 1811 - 6 May 1884) was a naturalized U.S. citizen who was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives and later U.S. Senator from Louisiana. He declined 2 nominations to the U.S. Supreme Court. After Louisiana seceded, Benjamin resigned his seat, and later served in 3 cabinet posts in the Confederate government (Attorney General, Secretary of War, and finally Secretary of State). After the American Civil War, Benjamin emigrated to the UK, where he became a distinguished Queen's Counsel.
