Character description

Katharine (Mary) Briggs, 1898-1980, was a British folklorist who earned her Ph.D. from Oxford in 1952. Her greatest work is the encyclopedic A Dictionary or British Folk-Tales in the English Language, which remains the standard in its field. She wrote several other specialized studies and a small number of fictionalized accounts of fairy tales.
