Character description

Lady Diana Cooper, née Manners (1892–1986), a British aristocrat and actress, was one of the most famous society leaders in Britain in the early 20th century. She was officially the youngest daughter of Henry Manners, 8th Duke of Rutland, and his wife Violet Lindsay, but Lady Diana's biological father was widely supposed to be the writer Henry Cust. Lady Diana married Alfred "Duff" Cooper, one of her circle of friends' last surviving male members, in June 1919. Their only child, John Julius Cooper (later the 2nd Viscount Norwich (and known as John Julius Norwich), published a volume of her letters to him Darling Monster
