Character description

Colonel Marshall Lefferts commanded the Seventh Regiment of New York in April 1861.  They were among the first troops to respond to Lincoln's call to protect Washington.  He commanded the regiment during its service in the Civil War, mostly in Baltimore and Frederick, Maryland.  It mustered out July 20, 1863.
