Character description

Michael Ventris (1922-1956): British architect and wartime air force member who, in his free time, deciphered the ancient Greek syllabary known as Linear B. Working from a hint supplied by Alice Kober, he was able to determine values for many of the symbols in the syllabary, and from this show how it resembled a very early form of Greek. He died in a car crash before he could do much with the results, but other scholars were able to verify and extend his work greatly.
