Character description

Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex (1566–1601) was the son of Lettice Knollys and stepson of Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. He went to court in 1584 and became a favorite of Queen Elizabeth. He became a distingushed soldier but later defied the queen's orders and was executed for treason.
