Ruth Gruber (b. 1911) is an pioneering American journalist, photographer, writer, and humanitarian. During World War II, she served in the Roosevelt Administration as a Special Assistant to Secretary of the Interior Harold L. Ickes. Her remarkable, adventurous career was recognized by a lifetime achievement award from the American Society of Journalists and Authors.
