Character description

Samuel Vimes was a captain in the Ankh-Morpork City Watch at the beginning of the Discworld series. He is an alcoholic who has given up hope of making a difference in the city, until he meets a young, idealistic adopted dwarf named Carrot. Carrot helps him to see life differently and he rises to the title of Commander and is made a Duke. He marries the former Sybil Rankin.
