Character description

Sir John Moore (1761-1809) was a commander of British forces in the Iberian peninsula during the Napoleonic wars. He was killed at the Battle of Corunna and his funeral became the subject of a famous poem by Charles Wolfe. He also was commemorated by a statue in his native Glasgow and by a monument in St Paul's Cathedral in London.
