Stanley Unwin (later Sir Stanley Unwin): Manager of the British publishing firm of George Allen and Unwin in its heydey, when in published first J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and later The Lord of the Rings. Unwin was the father of Rayner Unwin, who gave his father reason to publish The Hobbit and later convinced him to risk a substantial loss on The Lord of the Rings. As it turned out, of course, Tolkien's works did extremely well for the company.
