Character description

In the Empire series by Sam Barone, Tammuz is a young man who was serving as a camp boy during the siege of Akkad.  His left arm is badly injured iand he was nursed back to health by Lady trella.   A member of the Hawk Clan, he is no longer able to fight, and runs a tavern in a poor section of the city where he gathers information for Trella.  He is assisted by Kuri and later by En-hedu.

Tammuz is most famously a Sumerian god of food and vegetation.   the consort of Inanna and, in his Akkadian form, the parallel consort of Ishtar, he is the subject of a cycle of life-death-rebirth.  He spends half the year in the underworld of the dead.
