Character description

The Mock Turtle: A whimsical creation of Lewis Carroll, based on the existence of mock turtle soup. Since turtle soup was made with turtle, did it not follow that mock turtle soup was made from a mock turtle? So Carroll created the character (found in the original manuscript of Alice's Adventures Underground) -- a despairing creature which used to be a real turtle, and tells tales and sings odd songs of its education under the sea.
