Character description

Thérésa or Thérésia de Cabarrus (1773-1835), was a great survivor of the turbulent events in late 18th-century France. She first married the marquis de Fontenay and was presented at court. Then she became a political activist at the start of the French Revolution. She became a close friend of Josephine de Beauharnais (later empress) during the Reign of Terror and was later nicknamed "Our Lady of Thermidor" for helping prisoners to be released. Her salon became the center of Directoire society. When Tallien's power waned, she moved on to Barras, then became Princesse de Chimay.
