Character description

Princess Victoria of Hesse (1863–1950) was the eldest daughter of Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse and by Rhine and Princess Alice, daughter of Queen Victoria. In 1884, she married Prince Louis of Battenberg, an officer in the Royal Navy. During World War I, she and her husband abandoned their German names and titles and adopted the more British-sounding Mountbatten. In 1917, they became Marquess and Marchioness of Milford Haven.
