He ignites in her a hopeful spark that burns through her numbness. But can Emma believe a man like John, handsome, successful and established, could love a girl like her once her painful secrets come to light?

When he starts to push back, ending his relationship and reevaluating his professional future, he meets Emma. She’s the beautiful girl dancing at the nightclub he and his friends are at, and when he spots her, he’s left a little breathless. His best friend, Denny, is interested in the chestnut-haired beauty too, but, as John and Emma embark on a blossoming romance, a far bigger threat looms. It will force John to reexamine his own past and decide how far he’ll go to protect the woman he has fallen so desperately in love with.

Description: The first four books in the Legend of the Iron Flower series. Action-packed fantasy adventure with a powerhouse female epic warrior in the spirit of Achilles or Beowulf.

Iron Bloom - A young woman with a kind heart and amazing resilience, Rose becomes a warrior thinking she can better the world. Despite the wealth and fame she wins as one of the greatest champions of her time, the bloody reality of her new life is nothing like her ideal dream. She yearns for a chance to escape the violence. She finds that chance in Ethan, the leader of an altruistic pacifist group. But when a barbarian horde invades their kingdom, Rose knows that she could make a big difference by taking up her sword again. Will her need to protect her homeland cost her the man she loves?

Iron Flower - One of the greatest fighters in the world, nearly indestructible Rose lets few things strike fear into her—but magic is one of them. Nonetheless, she seeks out the magical dangers left by the ancients alongside warrior partner Finn and curious scholar Derrick in order to protect others from them. Their mission is complicated by Rose and Finn's budding romance, as her choice of lifestyle conflicts with his expectations for the woman he loves. But when their quest pits against such titanic foes as a prince able to slay a thousand men in a day and a draconic archmage, will Rose be forced to embrace the very magic she fears?

Iron Bonds - Nearly indestructible warrior Rose has brought the use of magic back to her world with the help of her love Finn and scholar friend Derrick. Yet there is no time for weary heroes to rest as Death General Joghra, military leader of the most advanced nation in the world, and vengeful giantess Fiona come with a vast army to conquer their homeland. But as Rose and Finn clash with these titans with their underhanded tricks and endless horde, will it be the magic she has always feared that ends up costing Rose her love?

Iron Seeds - Famed warrior Rose receives a request for aid from Count Brandon, who uses the ogre attacks in his territory as an excuse to get her close intending to woo her. Unknown to him, her husband Finn secretly comes along to help. But the monster problem turns out more serious than any of them expect, especially when they must also protect a pair of much less experienced friends. Can the three mightiest warriors of their nation work together in their strained relationship long enough to save their land?

From the Beginning by Timna Kurtz (Self published)

Offered by Tali_carmi (author): Hi,
This is a great book for the lovers of Women's adventure and Post-Apocalyptic fiction
I'm looking to get some Amazon reviews for it.

Description: Warning: This is not your average tale of adventure. It won't go down easy and it's not intended for the lighthearted. The ideas, the dissonance that emerges from these pages will make you shift uncomfortably in your seat. You'll be filled with conflicting feelings. Certain points will resonate with you and others you will reject totally. I'm not sure you'll like this book, but you'll be moved... affected. The story before you is not intended to merely entertain - it seeks to force you to grapple with the same complexities that the characters do. And the answers aren't simple. The plot is a slippery slope and will drag you on an emotional journey: from love to hate, from misery to joy, from hopelessness and back to inspiration reborn. When you finally cross the finish-line, your worldview will be forever transformed. When culture is washed away, humans become as wild as the wildest natureSometime soon, in the very near future, water rises and covers the entire earth, erasing humanity and its infrastructure. A small group of survivors manages to find shelter on a small mountaintop that remained exposed despite the flood. Here, forced to withstand avalanches, injuries and famine, as well as the excruciating pain of loss and bereavement, they must create a life for themselves and invent humanity from the beginning. As unexpected bonds and loaded relationships are formed, the constant rustle of the descending water levels continues its alarming hum. And above all, hovers a horrible prophecy threatening to come true…Lust, danger and human instinct come together in a realistic fantasy, packed with action, romance and suspense.Grace, a beautiful and charismatic woman, slowly takes her place as a leader of the group and the founder of its old-new way of living. From the ‘sacred cave’ at the top of their ‘island’, to the foot of the shoreline, where the tribe dwells, she must steer her new and impossible community out of doom and into a hoped-for future. This calamity Also offers a chance of a life time to wipe the slate clean and start all over again. Will they be wise enough to take the opportunity, or will their past have a stronger hold?An exciting adventure-packed piece of literary fiction that will grab you from the very first page!Scroll up to get your copy of From the Beginning now!

The Mask of Sanity by Jacob M. Appel (The Permanent Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDFs sent directly from the author. I am always grateful for reviews.

Description: On the outside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a pillar of the community: the youngest division chief at his hospital, a model son to his elderly parents, fiercely devoted to his wife and two young daughters. On the inside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a high-functioning sociopath—a man who truly believes himself to stand above the ethical norms of society. As long as life treats him well, Balint has no cause to harm others. When life treats him poorly, he reveals the depths of his cold-blooded depravity.

At a cultural moment when the media bombards us with images of so-called sociopaths who strive for good and criminals redeemed by repentance,The Mask of Sanity offers an antidote to implausible tales of evil gone right. In contrast to fictional predecessors like Dostoyevesky's Raskolnikov and Camus' Mersault, Dr. Balint is a man who already has it all —and will do everything in his power, no matter how immoral, to keep what he has.

Living in Italy: the Real Deal by Stef Smulders (Babelcube)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by stef7sa (author): Hi, as a self-published debut author I need readers! So thanks if you want to participate.

Description: Ever thought about moving to Italy? Think again. And then do it anyway ;-).
Read about the hilarious and horrendous adventures of two Dutchmen and their dog who took the plunge and nearly drowned. Some Italian food for thought!

Did you like "Under the Tuscan Sun" by Frances Mayes? Then this another great read for you. The story is situated in the beautiful but unknown Oltrepò Pavese wine region south of Milan. With its smooth hills, medieval castles, ancient villages and endless vineyards it is called the Tuscany of the North of Italy. Read the stories and discover another hidden gem off the beaten track of Italy!

"a comical, often downright hilarious account" Reader's Favorite Review ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

"Smulders' storytelling artistry is wildly entertaining" Blogcritics/Reader Views ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

"Stef Smulders ... does what a good writer does: He writes what he observes and leaves the judgement to you, the reader. No constant bellyaching from Mr. Smulders. I like that. I really like that." James Martin, Italy expert, wanderingitaly.com

"Fantastico! I am a tough critic and have nothing but kudos for this book. Buy this book!!" Elliana on Amazon

"There is more of the flavor of Italy in this book than in ... Frances Mayes' 'Under the Tuscan Sun'" Amazon review by Grady Harp HALL OF FAME TOP 100

"now I can add Stef Smulders to the list of my favorite ex-pat authors" N.N. Light

In 2008 Stef Smulders, his partner Nico and their dog Saar emigrated to Italy to start a new life and set up their B&B Villa I Due Padroni. They sold their home, left their friends and family behind and took a leap into the unknown. Now Stef shares his experiences in a collection of witty short stories. The book treats the trials and tribulations of an emigration.

The reader is introduced to a full range of Italian characters, from the trustworthy to the rogue, from the gentle to the shameless, flesh and blood Italians. Some are stereotype, others unexpectedly original. Yet they never fail to amuse and entertain.

Paula, a polyglot architect, and Meir, a textile industrialist, fled with their only child, Israel, to Vilnius, Lithuania, and later to Bialystok, attempting to save themselves from certain death in the extermination camps. In the midst of terror, there they found grace In August 1943, the Bialystok Ghetto was emptied by the Nazis and all its occupants were sent to extermination. The Steins had managed to remain hidden in the Ghetto for five more weeks, before escaping to their new hideout—the home of a Polish family that gave them refuge. Description: It’s been one year since my husband Logan died.
For the last eleven months, I’ve hated Logan for how he left me.

For ten months, I’ve worked my ass off to get myself and my daughter out of the debt Logan landed us in, and we’re not close to out.

For eight months, I’ve been sleeping with Logan’s best friend, Cameron.

I am a f*cking mess.

On my thirtieth birthday, everything changes. It’s like I wake up, and I don’t want to be me anymore. I give myself fourteen days to fix my life. I commit to one task each day, starting with quitting coffee and ending with breaking it off with Cameron and finding someone who isn’t entrenched in all of the b*llshit, finding a man who’s sweet and safe.

But, my life doesn’t want to let me go. The sweet and safe guy I find isn’t what he seems. The consequences of my husband’s death go deeper than I know. And, there’s a vicious stalker on my trail who believes I need to be punished.

And, then there’s Cameron.
I should have never slept with him.
Starting up with him was wrong because I knew he loved me since high school.
As my life becomes more and more dangerous, he proves he would do anything to protect me and my daughter.
And, unfortunately, I am undeniably in love with him, too.

But, to move on I have to leave him.

However, Cameron has no plans to ever let me go.

London Road: Linked Stories by Tessa Smith McGovern (eChook Digital)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by TessaSmithMcGovern: GOLD MEDAL WINNER 2012 eLIT AWARDS, AMAZON BEST-SELLER

On the morning of her release from prison, the hottest day on record in England, Janice Bailey makes her way to a boarding house in London, and discovers a bizarre new world.

This moving collection of linked short stories begins with 'When Janice Bailey Walked', an award-winning story first published in the Connecticut Review, and continues with six more stories that take place on a single day, as told by the eccentric residents of Number 17, London Road, thus illuminating a little-known side of the most beautiful city in Europe.

Praise for LONDON ROAD: LINKED STORIES:

"...reminiscent of the writer who appears in one of the stories: the great Katherine Mansfield."

Cynthia Rogerson, winner, V.S. Pritchett Memorial Prize for a Short Story, 2008, UK

KIRKUS REVIEWS: In seven short stories, residents of a London boardinghouse reach moments of clarity. On London Road, lined with scruffy shops, stands No. 17, a detached red-brick Victorian that's been turned into a boardinghouse. Its residents tend toward hard luck and desperation: Janice is just out of prison; Mandy is on probation; Bitty has a good education, but is scarred by her mother's frequent abandonments; and Isobel is mentally unstable. Nora, the landlady, writes romance novels but has experienced little romance herself, and her daughter, Anna, is disgusted by Isobel's outbursts.
Their interconnected stories take place on a day of unusually hot weather, and focus on one resident at a time, with Janice's story told in two parts. In each, characters have a chance to make a leap of faith in other people, or in the future. In "The Walls of Buckingham Palace," for example, Nora--who adores the queen--reflects on an uneasy encounter with Len, her local pub's new landlord, who drank too much and frightened her off: "But every night since, her sleep had been disturbed by longings she thought had long since been vanquished." It takes queenlike courage for her to return to the pub, where she finds that Len is apologetic, sincere, and kind. Pointing to a framed photograph of the queen, he remarks, "You remind me of her, you do"; nothing, of course, could better gain her trust and win her over.
Though spare and fast-paced, McGovern's (Cocktails for Book Lovers, 2014, etc.) tales evoke entire biographies. She focuses on illuminative details and subtle, turning-point moments, as when Mandy, a young woman on probation, reacts to her mandatory book group's reading of Katherine Mansfield's 1922 short story "The Garden Party." It stokes her resentment, as she doesn't even know if people still give garden parties. Mandy makes plans to shoplift again, but something about the book group leader's hopefulness and the invitation to give her honest opinion sparks her determination to win--maybe a literary argument, or maybe more chocolate wafers. Tales with subtle, positive but never saccharine transformations that feel fully earned."

Bad Elephant Far Stream by Samuel Hawley (Conquistador Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Samuel_Hawley (author): I’m the author of Bad Elephant Far Stream. I’m holding this giveaway to connect with readers and get reviews for the book. E-book copies will be emailed to the winners in epub and mobi (Kindle) format. PDF available upon request.

Description: Read the book that reviewers are calling “compelling,” “haunting and enchanting,” “extremely well written,” “engrossing,” “a historically significant novel,” “an important story”!

Bad Elephant Far Stream is an animal story for adults, a novel about the odyssey of a circus elephant, told through her own eyes. Inspired by the true story of the circus elephant Topsy, it begins in the forests of Ceylon in the late 1860s with the capture of a baby elephant known to her own kind as Far Stream. She is taken to America chained in a ship and sent to the Adam Forepaugh Circus in Philadelphia. There, Far Stream embarks on a new life under the big top, appearing as “Topsy,” part of Forepaugh’s famed elephant dancing quadrille. She crisscrosses North America for thirty years with the circus, experiencing hardships, kidnapping, escapes and adventure. But when she comes to outweigh her keepers by a factor of forty—it’s hard not to hurt somebody. It’s hard not to be “bad.”

A poignant and powerful novel for fans of unusual historical fiction, Bad Elephant Far Stream explores the questions: What is it like to be an elephant captured and trained to perform in the circus? What does such an animal think? What does it feel? What does it yearn for? Bad Elephant Far Stream takes the reader on a voyage of discovery to find out.

Praise for BAD ELEPHANT FAR STREAM:

“...meticulously researched and well told...an important story...I urge people to read this book.” (Stewart McFarlane, author of Of Mice and Zen: Animal Encounters in the Life of a Wandering Buddhist)

“Hawley’s novel explores the world of circus elephants in an intriguing and haunting way...Moving and thought-provoking ... an intense and emotional novel. A highly recommended read.” (Shalini’s Book Reviews)

“5 star review. Well researched, well written and compelling...gripping, heart felt, and filled with compassion...A wonderful work of historical fiction that I can recommend to all readers.” (Lynelle Clark Aspired Writer)

“Far Stream captured my heart immediately...I enjoyed this book so much that I had to research the story further.” (Tom Riddell, The Writers Lounge)

“This extremely well written novel really makes you stop and think. It was very well researched and put together, leading to a seamless whole...simultaneously haunting and enchanting...[Hawley's] low key descriptions paint this world in front of the audience, allowing them to immerse themselves fully into the tale. The characters were developed in a natural manner that really helped to carry the story forward...This historically significant novel is one that will stick with me for a long while. It’s a must read for those who enjoy this genre.” (Bibliographic Ramblings of a Bookworm)

“I found myself having a hard time putting down the book as I wanted to find out what would happen next. Topsy's story was just that engrossing...A good book for animal lovers (although parts will make you sad) and very well written.” (If It Has Words)

Description: Trailer: http://youtu.be/2VfYxsHNlhc

This is the story of a lonely kid who develops a computer game, using what little of quantum physics that he has read, that renders game levels from maps of any format; the result is just a little too realistic. When he tries to combine this "World of Shawn" with a favorite game of his childhood, "World of One," he soon finds Worlds colliding, to the detriment of his friends. Shawn must step up and rectify things, rescue the princess and save the World.

The interaction and constant dialogue between the characters in this story, as well as the humor and action intertwined, have drawn comparison to that in such works as "The Lord of the Rings," "Harry Potter," and "Narnia," so if a reader has an interest in any of those, as well as an interest in computer programming or video games, either in the past or the present, it would be a safe bet that they would enjoy getting to know Shawn and his World!

Description: “One of the year’s best crime novels!” (BestThrillers.com)

HOMEOWNER WITH A GUN

It's the middle of the night. You’re awakened by a noise. Someone is in your house. What do you do?

When it happens at 148 Maple Drive, homeowner Jeff Shaw gets his gun and goes downstairs to investigate while his wife calls 9-1-1. It’s their home, after all. Jeff has to protect it. He finds two men in the kitchen and shoots them both. Dead.

The incident puts great strain on Jeff and his family. He wants to believe they just need to get on with their lives and everything will return to normal. But it’s not that easy. The dead intruders belonged to a gang, ANG, “Ain’t No Game,” that now wants revenge. And one of the gang, an ex-con who goes by the name I-Man, knows more about the break-in than he’s letting on.

It starts with a threatening phone call. Then it gets worse. The police, unable to protect the Shaws, suggest they move away for a while. But Jeff won’t be intimidated from his house. Homeowner With a Gun takes the reader on a suspense-filled thrill ride as this everyman fights to save himself and his family, while something a detective said plays in the back of his mind: Maybe the intruders broke into the wrong house. Happens all the time. You wouldn’t believe how often...

PRAISE FOR HOMEOWNER WITH A GUN
“A very well written vigilante crime, mystery, suspense filled book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment.”
(Tony Parsons, Amazon 5-star review)

“I loved the ending. Just loved it. Very few books make me gasp and immediately flip back a few chapters to read again. No spoilers but really it was brilliant....my heart was in my mouth. Fans of Gone Girl will appreciate this book; a similar switching back and forth between two protagonists perspective and shocking twists!”
(Aisling Gray, Amazon 5-star review)

“This is a very good ‘ripped-from-the-headlines’ story. I highly recommend this book!”
(Jennifer Zuna, Goodreads, 5-star review)

“A well written & insightfully captivating novel. This is a very deep story that is about so much more than simply the suspense that Hawley provides. He takes off with a fast pace and maintains it throughout the novel. Hawley’s plot twists kept me on my toes while the story kept moving forward.”
(Confessions of a Bibliophile book review blog)

“As much as I hate clichés, I'm going to use one: I couldn’t put it down.”
(Roger Shepherd, Amazon 5-star review)

“Very well developed story told from the eyes of two different characters (Jeff and I-Man). You can like both of them. Plenty of action and lots of twists and turns.”
(James Phillips, Amazon 5-star review)

“I was blindsided with the depth and detail of this book and I thoroughly loved it on all counts...I was surprised with the ending but thought it quite clever!”
(bookshellz, Amazon 5-star review)

Jeffrey Dahmer: A Terrifying True Story of Rape, Murder & Cannibalism by Jack Rosewood

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by kekmaw (publisher): ***PLEASE ONLY ENTER THIS GIVEAWAY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO LEAVE A REVIEW ON AMAZON***

Description: ***PLEASE ONLY ENTER THIS GIVEAWAY IF YOU ARE ABLE TO LEAVE A REVIEW ON AMAZON***

Few serial killers in history have garnered as much attention as Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. Although Dahmer killed seventeen young men and boys, it was not so much the number of people he killed that makes him stand out among famous serial killers, but more so the acts of depravity that he committed on the corpses of his victims. In this true crime story you will read how Dahmer transitioned from a loner to serial killer, committing numerous unnatural acts along the way such as necrophilia and cannibalism. Following in the macabre tradition of another infamous Wisconsin serial killer—Ed Gein—Jeffrey Dahmer terrorized Milwaukee for most of the 1980s until he was finally captured in 1991.

Perhaps one of the most frightening aspects of Jeffrey Dahmer’s serial killer career was how easy he was able to lure his victims into his trap. Dahmer possessed above average intellect, was conventionally good looking, and usually had a calm demeanor that could disarm even the most paranoid of people. Because of these traits, Dahmer was able to evade justice numerous times, which allowed him to keep killing. Truly, Dahmer was able to fool his family, the police, his neighbors, and even the judicial system into believing that he was not a threat; but during the entire time his kill count increased and the body parts of his victims began to pile up around his apartment.

Open the pages of this book to read a story that is among the most disturbing of all true crime serial killers. You will follow the course of Dahmer’s life from an alcoholic outcast in high school to a vicious predator who stalked the streets of Milwaukee. Finally, you will read about Dahmer’s trial, his jail house murder, and the impact that his many crimes had on Milwaukee.

Serial Killers Rage and Horror by Jack Rosewood

This is an audiobook.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by kekmaw (publisher): ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A REVIEW COPY FOR AUDIBLE, THIS IS AN AUDIOBOOK***

Description: ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A REVIEW COPY FOR AUDIBLE, THIS IS AN AUDIOBOOK***

From rampage killers to hunters that seek out human prey in the shadows of the night, this serial killer anthology is a collection of horror stories. Collectively these men were responsible for hundreds of deaths, and they all belong in the realm of the worst serial killers to date. Delve into eight different cases and explore the heinous deeds committed, the background of each killer, and the apparent motives for their crimes.

There are those who went on deadly rampages, such as Cho Seung-Hui and George Hennard; men who decided to inflict as much terror in one day as they possibly could. Famous serial killers are included, such as the Hillside Stranglers, Kenneth Bianchi and Angelo Buono, and the Beast of the Ukraine, Anatoly Onoprienko. There are also lesser known murderers such as Fritz Haarmann and Ronald Dominique, who preyed on young men for their own deviant pleasures.

Each of these true murder stories will leave you with a sense of horror and perhaps a little fear. David Parker Ray’s surviving victims still live in fear today, and this notorious true crime story is one of the most sadistic and disturbing. With tales of torture, mind control and violence, very few survived their time in Ray’s toy box.

The true crime stories in this book have been selected because of the horrendous nature of their actions and the sheer volume of victims they slaughtered. Innocent people, going about their daily business or asleep in their beds, all make up these serial killers true crime stories.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by StephanieACain (author): I'm the author of Shades of Circle City, and I'd love to have more online reviews, which is why I'm giving this away.

Description: Chloe is Catholic, a cop, and conventional, not necessarily in that order. But when a run-of-the-mill burglary arrest goes bad, she ends up dead. Turns out there are worse things than having a bra that doesn’t fit right.

When she wakes up alive–yeah, she’s as surprised as you are–she keeps seeing people her friends can’t see. She can’t get those people to talk to her, though, and one of them looks hauntingly familiar, even though it’s no one Chloe actually knows.

A handsome Indiana State Trooper with secrets of his own tells her that her would-be killer is tied to an open robbery case. While they work together to bring a relentless killer to justice, Chloe has increasingly disturbing encounters with the shades only she can see.

She finally realizes her death (and subsequent resurrection) has given her a connection to the restless dead of Indianapolis, and with a recent homicide rate over a hundred a year, there are a lot of restless dead in Indianapolis. What’s a conventional, Catholic cop to do?

Catch the crook, get the guy, and say a few Hail Marys just to be safe.

True Crime Stories Volume 5 (AUDIBLE VERSION) by Jack Rosewood

This is an audiobook.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by kekmaw (publisher): ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A AUDIOBOOK FOR AUDIBLE***

Description: ***PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS A AUDIOBOOK FOR AUDIBLE***

Open the pages of this true crime anthology and learn about twelve of the most shocking true crime cases in modern history. You will be glued to the pages as you read about high profile true crime murder cases, such as the murder of Laci Peterson, and the murder trial of actor Robert Blake, while learning about some lesser known yet equally notorious murder trials. You will follow criminal investigations into cold murder cases that were once thought to be unsolvable, but through a combination of scientific advances, good police work, and some luck, homicide detectives were able to give the victims’ families closure.

Although most of the cases profiled in this book are clearly true crime stories, one case, the story of the famous doctor Jack Kevorkian, concerns changing legal interpretations of what constitutes murder in the United States of America. Other cases profiled involve privileged individuals who had plenty of money, but resorted to murder out of greed and selfishness. You will also read about one privileged woman, actress Dominque Dunne, who had her whole life in front of her, only to have it ended by a jealous lover who could not handle her success and privilege.

Open the cover of this book, if you dare, and learn about some of the most intriguing high profile crimes and true murder to happen in the last 100 years. You may want to share this book with a friend, though, because as intriguing as the following cases are, they are also shocking and disturbing.

As a child she’d felt entitled to the best of her father’s love and attention, resenting his favoritism toward her half-sister and half-brother. Only her immigrant grandfather had showered her with the devotion she felt she needed. Her problems with her father were a case of history repeating itself. The grandfather she adored had favored two of his children over Elise’s father, Emil. Emil’s own frustrations with his father, Jules, and his wild youth, leave Elise a child of a volatile divorce, shuttled between her alcoholic mother and her successful, but judgmental father and forced to share his love with the children of his other relationships. She rebels against him in every way for attention, shunning his increasingly religious ways, acting out against her brother and step-mother. Only her grandfather and her half-sister, Nova, are spared Elise’s wrath and offered her love. When family suspicions turn toward her, rather than her brother, over a questionable bank transaction, Elise leaves home for New York, furious and unforgiving, remaining estranged from her father until his death. Set in the green, rolling hills of Western Pennsylvania and narrated by Elise, Nova, and their grandmother, Eugenie, The Narrow Gate is a powerful and tender novel about coming home and a family that must face its own flaws in order to find a way to heal.

"The Narrow Gate is a story about relationships within a large family in a small Western Pennsylvania town. The focus character, Elise, is self-exiled to Long Island. The novel begins and ends when she returns to her hometown for her father's funeral. During that brief time period, the reader is treated to a psychology handbook full of family love and dysfunction as each relative adds his or her voice. The glory of the writing is that by the end of the story, the reader sees the entire picture and understands the title, The Narrow Gate."

Offered by johnhelder (author): This book is available as ebook only in epub, mobi and PDF formats.

I hope you enjoy this book and post a review on Amazon.

Description: Despite every effort for peace ultimate global conflict unleashed spite filled weapons of such destruction and devastation that wailing was heard in every country on earth. Human society collapsed and clouds that darkened the aftermath skies were not of rain but of flies. Amid the responding sprawl of plants survivors strove to rebuild. Many took to the wilderness rather than live among men reverting to ways still deeply ingrained as their own culture. Pioneering spirit was not quelled and one man's vision meant that living had to be re-modeled and the idyllic Baalen Way was born. Limited technologies caused a race to re-establish control and while corruption saw some manoeuvering for political power others simply survived. Tower complexes arose with controlling Primes and Syndicates yet beyond their tentacles of relentless order there were those who knew the true value of freedom and who refused to yield. For their defiance they were ruthlessly hunted and forced to comply or die.

The Winter Prince by Everdene (Free Publishing)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by E.H.Everdene (author): Hi!

Thank you for your interest in reviewing my "Winter Prince" :)
Im looking to get some Amazon reviews, but also very happy to get reviews on Goodreads and LibraryThing as well.

Description: AWARD-WINNING FAIRYTALE.
A feel-good, easy to read, tale about the sweethearts Nikoline and Nikolai.
The winner of Commentums children's book contest in 2014.

””The Winter Prince” by E. H. Everdene is an enchanting fairy tale for modern times. A princess dreams of a prince to come to take her away from a strifeling existence; the handsome prince lives only for the love of the fair princess and will overcome any obstacle, make any sacrifice to be with her. Malevolent supernatural forces conspire to keep the two apart, help arrives in unexpected ways and from unexpected places, and good triumphs over evil. The scenaro is timeless and beloved.
E. H. Everdene rendition, however, has a few modern twists: her prince is a sensitive young man who is not afraid to sit and weep openly when confronted with an obstacle he does not seem likely ever to surmount, and the princess, far from being helpless and demure, fearlessly takes matters into her own hands, escapes from her tower and rescues the prince. In this captivating modern fairy tale, true love is an equal partnership, and the message is empovering for young readers.

All of the most familiar and most treasured elements of mythology are present in this heartwarming and timeless tale, which could well be used in a mythology class. Archetypes, symbolism, the quest, supernatural forces, cryptozoological entities, and a clear and present moral are all wowen deftly into the narrative, which seems as if it has existed for aeons.

”The Winter Prince” by E. H. Everdene is a new classic fairy tale, destined to delight generations to come in the manner of hans Christian Anderson, or the famous tales of brothers Grimm.”

Description: Escapees and Fevered Minds continues the dark, twisted and wildly imaginative adventures of several larger-than-life characters introduced in White Walls and Straightjackets by David Owain Hughes.

Not to worry if you haven’t read the first book; you will thoroughly enjoy this sequel as a stand-alone novel. However, I suspect that once you’ve finished Escapees and Fevered Minds, you’ll race to pick up the previous book.

If you enjoy your horror on the more extreme side, then Hughes is your man. Not only because he fearlessly and unapologetically explores the more disturbing side of the genre, but also because he is clearly having a jolly good time telling this story. And in turn, we do too.

Make no mistake, Hughes holds nothing back and revels in taking his readers into a splatter-filled heart of darkness, and he doesn’t shy away from gore, over-the-top violence, graphic sexual deviance and profanity.

In the hands of lesser authors, extreme horror tales such as this often risk falling victim to their excesses. But Hughes is a talented author, and his ability to navigate the surplus of gore and violence with solid storytelling is deceptive in how easy he makes it look. He understands that pacing, the build-up of suspense and intriguing characters are just as essential as the disturbing elements of the plot.

It is a testament to the lucidness of Hughes’ writing, that although the narrative slips back and forth between past and present, and an intriguing use of flashback within flashback and hallucinatory states, the reader never loses sight of where they are in the story.

Description: The story is a sequel to Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. It takes place seventy-seven summers since. The World State has changed considerably, having taken a bio-technological turn towards transsexualism, on the one hand, and technology-provided social-communism, on the other. The only place where post-gender and post-capitalist progress hasn’t pervaded yet is the reservation area of so-called Isolated Islands, where Bernard Marx and Helmholtz Watson were to be exiled at the end of the original book.

The protagonist of this story is Bernard’s grandson, Adam Marx, who, being disappointed with his life on the world’s margins, longs for the Mainland. But it looks like his dream can never come true, for there is no place for a naturally born man in a society of biotechnological mutants. Fortunately or unfortunately for him, however, his cravings happen to coincide with an ongoing campaign of one of the ten current World State’s Controllers, pursuing Its own political purposes.

Hairlooms: The Untangled Truth About Loving Your Natural Hair and Beauty by Michele Tapp Roseman (HCI Books)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by HCIBooks (publisher): This giveaway is being offered by the publisher in order to solicit reviews of this book.

Description: Words have power, and those that Black women often use to describe their hair are derogatory: nappy, steel wool, out of control. They often personally inherit these terms and pass them along without even realizing the crushing effects these words have on their feelings about the person they see in the mirror. While many books on the market address the practical ways of styling Afro-textured hair naturally, Hairlooms asks: Why is it so difficult for Black women to embrace their hair? and How can Black women overcome the multi-layered challenge of embracing their natural hair and beauty? Author Michele Tapp Roseman helps readers answer these questions for themselves, to write a new story that they can pass along.

A recent Huffington Post article "Natural Hair Becoming Even More Popular Among Black Women" revealed a marked increase in the number of Black women who do not chemically treat their hair, yet also struggle to accept their natural hair and beauty. Through personal, revealing stories Hairlooms examines the issues behind these struggles. Guided exercises throughout help readers "comb through" their self-perceptions and form a plan for self-acceptance and personal empowerment.

The Light: A Modern-Day Journey for Peace by Judith T. Lambert (Pedernales Publishing)

Offered by JudithLambert (author): While many have heard of the Near-Death Experience this book is different as it searches for the common thread between us, in this world. This is not a book on the afterlife or what happens on the other side. Discovering a global context for the near- death experience is exciting and being the author I want to spread the word about another way we can view this phenomena.

Description: Is global spirituality possible? Maybe. This is a ground-breaking novel on the near-death experience that unveils the roots to a global spirituality.

Why has humankind always sought the Light? What do pharaohs and prophets and festivals around the world tell us about the meaning of the Light? A modern woman has an extraordinary dream that seems like a near-death experience. This gives rise to a quest for truth. Dissatisfied with answers at home, she takes her search abroad and enters a labyrinth of fortunetellers, religious scholars, Sufi guides and spiritual archaeologists. Propelled by what she discovers, her journey continues to the foundation of religious unity.

A Modern-Day Journey for Peace moves us to consider if the Light of the near-death experience isn’t actually the bedrock of religion and the springboard for a universal connection. This modern-day story melds the varieties of religious experience into a visual whole. The essence of God becomes globally and tangibly defined. This story uncovers our prevailing spiritual unity despite our world’s seemingly different beliefs. Ultimately, there is a powerful spiritual bond we have with one another. Gods and the names for God have changed in every era, yet one dynamic remains constant—the Light.

Religion’s common denominator? . . .The Light.

God does not have a religion.
God does not speak a language.
God does not have a culture.
It is we who require these things.

Society 3.0: How Technology is Reshaping Education, Work & Society by Tracey Wilen-Daugenti (Peter Lang)

Offered by RoeschLeisure: Trade paperback discarded from library collection.

Description: Higher education in the U.S. has traditionally prepared students for work and social success, but with families, work, and society itself undergoing revolutionary change, is this preparation sufficient to develop the 21st-century workforce? This book explores how evolving family structures, new ways of balancing work and personal lives, and rapid technological advancements will transform the ways that U.S. colleges and universities develop well-educated, career-oriented citizens. Society 3.0 will help higher education providers and industry leaders understand these potentially disruptive variables and design appropriate programs and career paths for tomorrow's workers. The book presents and explores the following insights:
– A wider range of family members, not just older children, now attend college, a decision that shapes – and is shaped by – 21st-century demographics.
– Older students, recognizing degrees as vital for competing in the global workforce, now outnumber those entering college before starting careers.
– Today’s workers are increasingly likely to be women, working outside the office or self-employed, or applying their education to innovation and entrepreneurship as small business owners.
– Technology is remaking the campus experience via smartphone learning apps, social networking among professors and students, and immersive engagement in virtual worlds – and even games.
Society 3.0 will provide higher education and industry stakeholders a guide for understanding the emerging societal forces that are shaping the future.

Molly and the Baby Duckling by Gwendolin Radford (XLIBRIS)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by jetangen4571: We enjoyed it, now it's your turn!
Nice tale to read with a young schooler. Molly lives in a rural village, goes to school, and visits a nearby farm with her parents after finding a baby duckling lost in the snow. And how could I not love a book where a knitter is a prominent character!
The illustrator did wonderful work! The book is colorful, larger than a piece of paper, and thin. My big disappointment was the full retail price, but I did see some costing half that, and the ebook price is quite reasonable.
I entered and won a Goodreads Giveaway and was provided with a free review copy.

Description: Molly, aged eight, lives with her mother and father in a cottage in a small village. It is wintertime, and Molly’s father rides to work on a bicycle. The snow has fallen overnight, and Molly is so excited to play outside.

The family takes a walk to the nearby pond, which has frozen over, and there was a baby duckling that needed to be rescued.

Length: 15 pages Age Level: 4 - 8

Gutter Kisses and a Hug on Garbage Day by Casey Renee Kiser (Falcon Books)

Offered by CaseyRenee (publisher): Review is not required.

Description: Collectible. Published 2005. Gently used copy. Out of print.

This collection of poetry is definitely dark but you will find no ghosts, goblins, or vampires hiding out. These poems come alive from the depths of the binding darkness that is found in all of us. Travel down the spiral to visit the barren heart of depression and the scattered mind. Sadness can be paralyzing, madness can be hilarious and together, they will be inspiring. These poems were written between the ages of 18-24.
