Description: Terrorism in America has a new game…decapitations!

Homeland Security Director Robert Grimmson faces the task of catching five men in New York City. They call themselves the Sword Masters with a single minded plan of terror through decapitations.

As he goes about the task, each step in his search is made more difficult through the interference of politicians, the media and his own government.
Robert’s examination constantly draws him back to Alexander who regales him with a tale of swordsmanship from his lineage featuring events of mankind’s bloody past and often oddly having a connection to the case before him.
With the clock ticking as New York collapses into a deep panic, he must catch the Sword Masters before it is too late!

How Sunday Became A Savoury by Polar Bear

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by akgr (author): Looking for some reviews on my first book! Written in a simple, even nonsense, narrative for anyone who is eight years old and above. It is a novella with 19,324 words only.

Description: Do you want to know how to get a free chocolate chip muffin every morning for breakfast?
You do, don’t you? Well…who doesn’t?
Also, do you want to know how an eight year old boy called Sunday did something that anyone can do? He defeated The Evil Thing that was doing some very, very bad things – singing in a bad voice, eating baked chips, not letting people eat donuts, and keeping a sleepy Polar Bear awake – REALLY BAAADDDD!
But nothing great happens without a great company. (Such as YouTube, that lets you watch funny cat videos). In this epic battle of good vs evil too, Sunday was not alone; he had some intelligent, brave friends who helped him once or twice. He had his Grandpa who liked to eat. And he had a friend who liked to share. Also, he had a pet frog who liked to write letters. You could also count the Polar Bear but only because he is the one writing this story. Together with them, Sunday found a way to banish The Evil Thing.
And Sunday had a strong nose which helped him once or twice too!
If you want to know more about those breakfast muffins, go to the bakery next door. But if you want to read about the face-off between a small boy and a BIG EVIL thing, read this book - HOW SUNDAY BECAME A SAVOURY!

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by EAPETRICKBONI (author): This is Book 4 of the Peacetaker Series. And I would appreciate a few more reviews - on an off chance that some readers might be interested in continuing with the series.

Description: The last words of a dying teenage car thief set off a race across Europe to find an SUV that may be harboring a terrible secret. If the device that could be hiding in the truck, fell into the hands of those who murdered its inventors, the world would usher in a new unprecedented era of terrorism. Carter knows that it’s no coincidence that his old FBI boss, Agent Saunders reaches out to him once again—two days before Carter and Stella are to leave on vacation—for Europe. The only reason why he reluctantly agrees to help is because he knows only too well what would happen if the device was weaponized. The car theft ring spans two continents and the police on both ends have been watching it for some time. Still, no one, least of all Carter would have thought that beside the dangerous invention that may be hiding in the SUV, other far more deadlier goods are being smuggled out of California’s laboratories.
Within seventy-two hours of landing in Nice, Carter and Stella are in the proverbial eye of the storm. What swirls around them in a deadly funnel is a chilling conspiracy that reaches the highest spheres of money and political power in Europe. And just as Carter is asking himself whether the vacation could get any more dangerous, something even more sinister than political machinations rises in their path. A mythological entity that even Stella thought was a pure myth, forces them to take a challenge neither is prepared for.

Angels with Engine Failure: an Arabian cyberpunk tale cycle by Bradley VanDeventer (Flying Knee Books)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by bradleyvan (author): Ebook available in Mobi, epub, and PDF.

Description: In the year 2065, the citizens of Aswadistan have the Internet in their heads via cortical modems. They steer their magic carpets with neural networks. Identity-swap parties are in. GnosisNet, a software that will render politicians and police obsolete, is set to roll out. An expat psychonaut known as the Outernationalist is hired to design its neurotransmitter algorithms.

But he meets Najwa, the ex-sultan’s court storyteller. She filibusters his work with stories, anti-stories, and quantum stories—forcing him to rethink his alliance within the coming political upheaval. While chasing down her past, he learns that her storytelling engine is powered by the Black Light, a deadly by-product given off by GnosisNet’s elected stewards.

Once the head-hacking mafia gets to him, the Outernationalist must “go analog” while visiting illumination farms and long-lost cities in search of the tools needed to fight the war over bandwidth and help others reclaim the sovereignty of the senses. He struggles to shake Najwa’s hold on his reality—all while enduring bad salvia trips, head-cluttering pop-up ads, online litigation, and magic lamps full of utility fog.

ANGELS WITH ENGINE FAILURE is a literary cyber-fable full of esoteric philosophy and tales-within-tales. It’s Arabian Nights meets The Matrix. It is an indictment on the technology hellbent on eliminating our privacy, as much as it is a meditation on narrative and its power to subvert and inspire.

The Amazing Mr. Morality: Stories by Jacob M. Appel (Vandalia Press / West Virginia University)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book and (if possible) my other books to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: Literary short stories: The Amazing Mr. Morality features tenacious men and women whose determination to buck middle-class social convention draws them toward unforeseen challenges. A failed television producer insists upon having a woodchuck relocated from his lawn, only to receive desperate letters in which the woodchuck begs to return. An overconfident ne’er-do-well obtains a lucrative lecture invitation intended for a renowned ornithologist and decides to deliver the speech himself. An innocuous dispute over whether to rename a local street opens up racial fault lines that prove deadly.

The collection concludes with the title novella in which two unscrupulous ethicists, writing rival newspaper columns, seek to unseat each other by addressing questions such as: If you’re going to commit a murder, is it worse to kill when the victim is sleeping or awake?

The Mask of Sanity by Jacob M. Appel (Permanent Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book and my other volumes to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: On the outside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a pillar of the community: the youngest division chief at his hospital, a model son to his elderly parents, fiercely devoted to his wife and two young daughters. On the inside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a high-functioning sociopath—a man who truly believes himself to stand above the ethical norms of society. As long as life treats him well, Balint has no cause to harm others. When life treats him poorly, he reveals the depths of his cold-blooded depravity.

At a cultural moment when the media bombards us with images of so-called sociopaths who strive for good and criminals redeemed by repentance,The Mask of Sanity offers an antidote to implausible tales of evil gone right. In contrast to fictional predecessors like Dostoyevesky's Raskolnikov and Camus' Mersault, Dr. Balint is a man who already has it all —and will do everything in his power, no matter how immoral, to keep what he has.

Gilded Summers by Donna Russo Morin (Creativia)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Donna.Russo.Morin (author): by Author

Description: Pearl is a socialite; Ginevra a servant. Both dream of more...neither expected a murder to get it.

Pearl and Ginevra grow up in the era known as the Gilded Age in Newport, Rhode Island. One lives above the stairs, the other below.

Surrounded by Astors and Vanderbilts, Pearl fills her days with teatime and shallow friendships, yearning for something more. A chance meeting with Mary Cassatt sparks her secret desire to be an artist. Meanwhile Ginevra, fresh off the boat from Italy, finds her own dreams out of reach as she joins the unwelcoming household as a servant and seamstress.

Kindred souls, the girls become fast friends but must keep their friendship hidden from Pearl’s controlling mother. Every summer, they meet in a hidden spot beneath the weeping beeches to talk of art and life, and their struggles to break the barriers of their lives.

Soon, the two young women must decide who they want to be in this world, and survive what it takes to get there…even if it includes murder.

"A lush and evocative novel of the Gilded Age period, brought vibrantly to life in this powerful work... A triumph by a masterful writer" - Anne Girard, author of Madame Picasso

“This is remarkable historical fiction that this reviewer highly recommends. Donna Russo Morin’s writing has evolved into something more meaningful, serious but joyfully engaging, and memorable in a creative, new style sure to endear readers of all ages! Wonder-full!”

    -Crystal Book Reviews

“I have long been a fan of this author. She knows how to vibrantly tell a historical story while still staying true to the historical side of things. Her passion for the Newport area shines through in her words. GILDED SUMMERS is an insightful glimpse into an age and place where women, even women of power, were merely objects and ornamentation. It is also an inspiring story of two women who chose to buck convention and live lives of their choosing; women who pioneered the way for the women of future generations.”

Sauced up, Scarred and at Sleaze by G.C. McKay

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by gcmckay (author): Hello there LibraryThingers,

I'm currently on the hunt for book reviews and feedback for my piece, Sauced up, Scarred and at Sleaze. I've got a few in the bag on Amazon and Goodreads but like many authors out there, I could really do with some more. Especially so on Amazon. Anyone who does enjoy it and leaves a review will be kept in mind for my next release, coming out around the end of September of this year. Just sign up to my newsletter via my website and get in touch when the review goes up.

Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy the book!

    G.C. McKay

Description: "Chuck Palahniuk times ten." - Alex Swery, Author (sharpobjectspress.com)

"Sauced up reminds me of Last Exit to Brooklyn, by Hubert Selby, Jr., one of my favorite transgressive fiction authors of all time. It’s got the same rawness to it, a feeling of vitality and life flowing underneath all the grit and slime. I totally loved it." - Lauren Sapala, Author (laurensapala.com)

Pull up your satire shorts, grab a bottle of your favourite sauce and take a plunge into the nihilistic world of G.C. McKay. You'll feel your fingers get grubbier with each flick of the page inside an anthology of deviant, yet at times touching and poignant short stories and novelettes.

"Sauced Up, Scarred and at Sleaze is a roller coaster ride through the dirtiest side of the people next door." - Anna Civolani, Writer (annacivolani.com)

Opening things up with 'Something Borrowed, Something Blue', a depressed, self-confessed drunk and sex-addicted late-teen discovers the joys of free cocaine and the sexual prowess of a married woman old enough to be his mother. A sin-a-rama that would make even Oedipus blush.
Self-destruction isn't supposed to feel this good, is it?

A few drinks down the road we take a turn into 'A Lesson Worth Unlearning', where a father and son bond over their mutual appreciation for teachers, pornography and the best places to masturbate during a mysterious trip out of town. But where on earth is Daddy taking his son?

"Be willing to take a trip through some pretty dark places and entertain some of the most perverse ideas committed to paper."

In 'Mother Nature Sends Her Love' and 'SQUIRM', a group of amoral, reckless teens run amok and fuck shit up just because they can inside a series of distasteful pranks and crude group games, inspired by the sexual frustration they're all governed by, yet totally unaware of. The perfect toilet reads.

And closing the collection off with a descent into the more horrific we come to 'The Last Laugh', where a sleep-deprived stand-up comedian attempts to shake off the aftermath of a destructive relationship... only to be immediately confronted by it again as he makes his long-awaited return to the stage. Cue tension, questionable narration and whole barrel of laughs, but at whose expense?

"I experienced a sentiment akin to the partaking of forbidden fruit." - .co.uk review

"A disturbingly well-written collection of stories." - Linda, Book Reviewer
    Book Blurb:

Snorting Lines in Search of Meaning. Threesomes. Webcams, Polyester Pellets and Banana Skins. A Teddy Bear and a Bottle of Deodorant. Father and Son Bondage. Laminated Low-Rent Porn Magazines. Barely Legal Prostitutes. A New Born Baby and a Runaway Dog. A Loose Woman Just a Little Too Willing. Camping, Digestive Biscuits and a BB Gun. Dangling Tampon Bell Chimes. Pranks with Pubic Hair. A Boy with Breasts. Unplugged Mics and Bloodstained Tissues. Pink Elephants and a Glass or Three of Martini.

Welcome to the nameless towns of faces best forgotten, if ever seen in the first place. Eight short stories/novelettes marinated in booze, peppered with profanity and garnished by masturbation—containing themes of a transgressive, nihilistic nature—all written, signed and sealed with a salacious kiss.

GC McKay would like you to consider this your warning.

A Lyle Saxon Reader: Lost Stories of the French Quarter and Buried Treasure by Lyle Saxon (Cultured Oak Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Offered by MWarner2018 (publisher): Please provide a honest and frank review in exchange for a copy of this book.

Description: In time for the New Orleans tricentennial celebration, this anthology of Lyle Saxon’s earliest published works brings to light stories that have remained hidden for nearly a century. Acclaimed during his time as an unofficial historian laureate of New Orleans and environs, Saxon’s stories had a monumental effect on the preservation of the city’s history and architectural heritage.

Originally published in the New Orleans Times-Picayune newspaper, the thirty-nine stories that comprise this volume include short stories, preservationist essays and character sketches from the author’s beloved city.

"Anyone with an interest in the city's early history or the literary prowess of Lyle Saxon in particular will find these compelling, offbeat, and powerful works." —Midwest Book Review

Lyle Saxon (1891-1946) earned his writing chops as a reporter for the New Orleans Times-Picayune. As a young man in the early 1920s, he pursued an exhausting newspaper career, writing the stories and character sketches that gave him the skills to produce later classics of Louisiana literature, such as Children of Strangers, Fabulous New Orleans, Old Louisiana and Lafitte the Pirate.

Some editing and notations have been added where appropriate, but the stories otherwise appear as originally published. Each story is almost a century old, and reflects Saxon's view of New Orleans, its people and environs.

Literature® by Guillermo Stitch (Nineveh Editions)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by GuillermoStitch (author): I am offering free digital copies of my book to Librarything members throughout August in return for honest reviews.

Please consider adding this book to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

The book recently reached No.1 on Amazon US for Dystopian books and No.4 for Science Fiction.

I hope that reviewers enjoy it!

Description: "One of the cleverest stories I've read this year. It’s not strictly science fiction, not strictly dystopian and it’s not strictly Philip Marlowe either, although I think it could be described as a smashup of all of these influences. It's whip-smart, well-paced, deeply satirical and dappled with just enough dark and light to keep the reader riveted" ANNE CUNNINGHAM (IRISH INDEPENDENT, IRISH TIMES, SUNDAY TIMES OF LONDON)

"Freaking amazing. Any agent or publishing house that passed this up made a big mistake. This is also a nomination for our Novel of the Year award. Captivating and timely, with a perfect bittersweet ending." SANDRA RUTTAN, UNDERGROUND BOOK REVIEWS

We don't know exactly when Literature® takes place and we don't know exactly where-all we know is that Philip Marlowe would fit right in.

But we don't get Marlowe. We get Billy Stringer, and Billy is on nobody's trail. He's the prey.

The story unfolds in the course of a single day, and it hasn't begun very well for Billy. He just messed up his first big assignment, he's definitely going to be late for work, his girlfriend won't get back to him and for reasons she has something to do with, he's dressed like a clown.

Also, he's pretty sure somebody's going to kill him today. But then that's an occupational hazard, when you're a terrorist.

He's a bit of a bookworm too, which wouldn't be a problem-or particularly interesting-except in Billy's world, fiction is banned. Reading it is what makes him an outlaw.

Why? Because people need to get to work...

It's fight or flight time for Billy, and he's made his choice. But he has to see Jane, even if it's for the last time-to explain it all to her, before she finds out what he has become. That means staying alive for a little while.

And the odds are against him...

"The best new work of speculative fiction I have read since the 20th Century...laced with enough scalpel-sharp wit and dark humour that you'll never notice the satire sliding into your awareness until it's too late to feel any real discomfort." SFF CHRONICLES

"Literature® speaks to the industrialization of art and also to the link between alienation and radicalization in consumerist societies. Mainly, though, it speaks to our need for great stories. By providing one. There is heart here, and heartache. And, crucially, a chase scene.

"For lovers of everything from Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and George Orwell's 1984, to Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye, Philip K Dick's Ubik and beyond." NINEVEH EDITIONS

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book and my other volumes to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: SHORT STORY COLLECTION: The frustrations of romantic love in its various guises—a domineering kindergarten teacher for a dashing artificial foliage designer, a suicidal physicist for his star student, a dialysis patient at a sleep-away camp for the camp owner’s daughter—provide the common theme for the stories in Jacob M. Appel’s seventh collection. We meet a psychiatrist dabbling with infidelity during a crisis in which rain turns into truth serum, a Finnish-American soldier charged with facilitating his commanding officer’s extra-marital affair, and a couple transporting a wealthy, “locked-in” patient across the Piedmont to his new nursing home. Appel’s literary short fiction offers a quirky window into the pangs and promise of love.

When Carly is roused in the middle of the night to come to work she knows she’ll be heading for a murder scene. After all, she’s a homicide detective, it’s her job, and she’s prepared for everything. Until she arrives in a suburban commuter parking lot where a young lawyer is lying on the ground, a hole in his chest, his organs vaporized, and a topographic map of a metropolitan grid tattooed on his face. A week later victim number two—same first name, same fist-sized hole in his chest, his organs vaporized and wearing another topographic map on his face—points to something more sinister that could lead to a nearby army facility.

Solving For Democracy by Tony Bracks

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by TonyBracks (author): The purpose of the book is to help improve democracy. In line with this I am trying to sell ideas rather than books, so am happy to give away copies to promote the ideas within. The more people that hear about the book and the more reviews published, then the more chance we have to truly deliver a better democracy.

Description: "This is a timely and fascinating account of not only what has gone wrong with our political systems – but how to fix them!" - Professor Ron Bewley

Fixing democracy once and for all, by removing each underlying cause of problems

In spite of its success, the flaws in our democratic decision making have led to tens of millions of unnecessary deaths in the last 50 years alone. Each and every year globally our poor democratic process squanders many trillions of dollars which could be otherwise spent for the benefit of all. This book outlines the many consequences of our current poor democratic process and presents a compelling case for change. The underlying problems within our democratic process are then identified, and tried and tested solutions are proposed.

Building on the expertise of scholars, this book critically analyses western democratic process to find and address the root causes of problems. The poor implementation choices that lead to those issues are removed and replaced with sensible and effective solutions. At the same time, democracy itself is strengthened through a true separation of powers, and the core qualities that have driven democracy’s success are reinforced. A more effective collective decision-making process is created, which better governs our leadership, and better represents the will of the people.

This book creates a new democracy, which removes any potential for either politics, corruption, self-interested politicians or the adverse influence of money. One which gives power back to the people within an effective governance framework to control that power. A democracy reconstructed from tried and tested solutions, which can produce better leadership and better decisions, for a fairer society.

What arises, is a new democracy. A democracy designed from the ground up to be, of the people, by the people and for the people.

Wedding Wipeout by Jacob M. Appel (Cozy Cat Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: A mystery novel, but also a satire of religious mystery novels (ie. if you are offended by mild profanity or an irreverent rabbi, please do not request.)

    From the jacket:
Two elderly spinster sisters––Florence and Lorraine––have lived together ever since the death of their wealthy father, living on generous stipends provided in his will that continue until one of them marries––at which time that sister is cut off financially. The sisters’ family is shaken up when Florence invites them to her wedding. The morning after the wedding, Florence is found dead in her bed. Was it an asthma attack as her new husband and the police believe or did someone enter her room in the middle of the night and suffocate the old woman with a pillow? Local amateur sleuth Rabbi Jacob Kappelmacher is brought in to investigate the suspicious death. He soon discovers that all of the sisters’ relatives stayed overnight following the wedding and could have strangled the old woman in her sleep. So could have the bridegroom. But who did it? And why? With no money and no motive, why would anyone kill the old woman? Rabbi Kappelmacher begins his investigation by interviewing all of the interested parties, intent on figuring out the convoluted and devious crime––and the sinister culprit behind it.

Do you know what the hardest thing for a French learner is?

Finding PROPER reading material that they can handle…which is precisely the reason we’ve written this book!

Teachers love giving out tough, expert-level literature to their students, books that present many new problems to the reader and force them to search for words in a dictionary every five minutes — it's not entertaining, useful or motivating for the student at all, and many soon give up on learning at all!

In this book we have compiled 20 easy-to-read, compelling and fun stories that will allow you to expand your vocabulary and give you the tools to improve your grasp of the wonderful French tongue.

How French Short Stories for Beginners works:

Each story will involve an important lesson of the tools in the French language (Verbs, Adjectives, Past Tense, Giving Directions, and more), involving an interesting and entertaining story with realistic dialogues and day-to-day situations.

The summaries follow a synopsis in French and in English of what you just read, both to review the lesson and for you to see if you understood what the tale was about.

At the end of those summaries, you'll be provided with a list of the most relevant vocabulary involved in the lesson, as well as slang and sayings that you may not have understood at first glance!

Finally, you'll be provided with a set of tricky questions in French, providing you with the chance to prove that you learned something in the story. Don't worry if you don't know the answer to any — we will provide them immediately after, but no cheating!

So look no further! Pick up your copy of French Short Stories for Beginners and start learning French right now!

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by SZbasnik (author): This giveaway is in the hopes for a few reviews for the newest romance novel from the author of the five-star action romance novel Undercover Siren.

Description: Hot soldier + brilliant doctor = a simmering hate transforming into a raging love in the desert heat.

Doctor Mae Jones had no idea when she agreed to assist the army in vaccinating children half-way around the world what she’d face. She didn’t sign up for a sexy British officer trailing her every move, his giddy smile and sunshine good-looks distracting her. Nor did she expect the sudden rebel attacks and bullets flying while she attempts to try to cure an unexplainable virus about to threaten the whole world. It’s up to her to try and stop a war before it even begins while she keeps falling for this man who’s her total opposite in every way but the heart.

In the second entry of the Inquisition series, this stand-alone novel presents Alistair Young. For those tired of the alpha who want someone sweet as cotton candy, Alistair is your man. Easy on the eyes, and light on the heart — he’s prone to cracking jokes and playing card games with the sick kids. For all his easy-going ways he knows how dangerous growing close to the new genius doctor can be, but he can’t look away either.

Offered by Ahmad_Ardalan (author): I am giving away 35 ebook copies of my last novella The Boy of the Mosque. I would appreciate an honest review to be posted in return on Amazon, Goodreads and Librarything at your earliest.

Description: "Can one man save their heritage?"

In the Year ‪1258, Baghdad‬, the capital of the great Abbasid Caliphate, fell to the Moguls. Within hours, the city of enlightenment was swallowed up by darkness, another society becoming a victim of hatred and greed. The mighty Tigris flowed with blue and red, the blood of its people and the ink from the age-old scrolls of knowledge, all heartlessly washed away. In spite of the turmoil and chaos, twelve families managed to flee. Far away they wandered, leaving behind their beautiful homeland that had been reduced to death and rubble. Together, that remnant from Baghdad established a new community, one that lived in peace and harmony for centuries. Centuries later, in 2017, mercenaries and militias took over that charming village, threatening to destroy the happy existence the people had worked so hard to rebuild. What will be the fate of those innocent people and their heritage? That hangs in the balance as all must rely on one man, The Boy of the Mosque.

Description: A three/four generational family story describing the extensive social changes which occurred between 1914 and 1990 and so viewed through the microscopic lens of a wealthy upper class and supposedly God-fearing family. The Trilogy is a realistic fiction exploring this particular family's evolving attitudes to class and status; to the challenges and conflicts experienced by them at all levels arising around issues of education, faith, gender roles and child rearing which ultimately reveal the hard truths rather than facts of each new generation's experiences. Individual and family struggles are played out via relationships constantly challenging the fixed rules and ideas of the upper strata and devolving to people living from the 'inside out' via enlightened attitudes and enriching encounters of overwhelming love and grace. Issues include class, Christian worship styles; differences between culture and faith; responses and reactions to suicide and attitudes to 'difference'.

His torturous escape results in the chilling retribution by a hooded friar who eliminates those responsible for the Templars' eradication. One by one, the legalists, the Pope, and King Philip IV are removed, leaving France and the church in chaos. My brother took his own life on his thirtieth birthday. My life has never been the same.

Thirty plus years after publishing the first edition of Dead Serious, this second completely revised and updated edition covers new ground: bullying, social media, LGBTQ teens, suicide prevention programs, and more. Scores of teens share their stories that are often filled with hurt, disappointment, shame—yet often hope. Written for teens, adults and educators, Dead Serious: Breaking the Cycle of Teen Suicide explores the current cultural and social landscape and how the pressure-filled lives of teens today can lead to anxiety, depression—suicide. Leder’s own journey of discovery after her brother’s suicide informs her goal of helping to prevent teen suicide by empowering teens who are suffering and teens who can serve as peer leaders and connectors to trusted adults. The skyrocketing number of teens who take their own lives makes Dead Serious: Breaking the Cycle of Teen Suicide more relevant and important than ever.

Born This Way by Tammy Ferebee (Tammy Ferebee)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by TammyFerebee (author): ***Respectfully, I ask that you do not request a copy if you have no intention of reading or reviewing it, as it costs to gift ebooks. Thank you so much for your understanding. ***

“Born This Way” is a novella. It’s a dark tale of a young gay teen, raised in a religious small town in the South. The themes are controversial and the subject matter is heavy and mature. Also, though I am an LGBT supporter, my character encounters some bullying, so you will read some offensive language and slurs.

Description: Being yourself should never come at this price.

Joseph is the son anyone would wish to have—anyone except his pastor father, that is. Joseph is gay, and where he comes from, his sexual orientation makes him a pariah. Tormented by the incorrigible denizens of his unprogressive Southern town, Joseph finds himself desperate for support from other members of the LGBT community. He turns to the internet with the hope of finding it, and, unexpectedly, Joseph finds more. Bruce.

An unlikely virtual friendship between Joseph and Bruce grows into something more, leading to a seemingly fated meeting. Joseph’s future suddenly looks brighter than ever, but no one could’ve ever predicted what would transpire after the two finally meet.

Offered by newshelves: New Shelves is working directly with the author, Kristi Saare Duarte, to spread awareness of her highly acclaimed book. Reviews greatly appreciated.

Description: What if Jesus was just an ordinary boy seeking enlightenment? Read the mesmerizing novel that others have called "life-changing" and "divinely inspired."

8 AD, at the Temple of Jerusalem. Charismatic young Yeshua thrills his audience when God seems to communicate through him. While his listeners gush, not everyone is impressed. The priests scoff and say that no carpenter, however wise, can ever enter their holy ranks. Humiliated and robbed of his only dream, Yeshua resigns to a drab life as a laborer and even agrees to marry the wealthy maiden his father has chosen for him.

One day, when a Buddhist pilgrim invites Yeshua along to the magical country Sindh, where anyone can become a monk, an irresistible portal of hope opens.

Torn between duty and following his bliss, Yeshua must choose between keeping his promise to his father or selfishly chasing his dream and bringing everlasting shame upon his family.

Riveting, enlightening, and deeply moving, The Transmigrant is a brilliantly vivid story about Jesus's lost years that will fascinate you and stay with you forever.

If you enjoy spiritual, thought-provoking fiction like The Celestine Prophecy or The Alchemist, and have ever wondered if Jesus did travel in India, you will relish this intriguing page-turner.

    ***
The decades leading up to the year 2052 could be summed up as dramatic. Foretold issues have come to pass, causing the foundation of society to profoundly change. But in the last fifteen years, nothing has had more of an influence on civilization than technology. The creation of computer-organic-hardware has revolutionized the world like nothing before it. The impact has reshaped beliefs, cultures, religions, and the way everyday life is lived.

Jason Mendez is an old-fashioned guy living in a “progressive” day that has little time for him or his friends. Bothered by the decaying conditions of the city he lives in, disturbed over the policies of an intrusive government, saddened by a species losing its identity to technology, and convinced that devious minds are to blame for everything, Jason opts to make a difference. But soon after a relationship begins to deepen with a co-worker who’s immersed in the technology he loathes; does he start to question his own identity and desires. It’s not until a mysterious man enters the fold with an ultimatum that will forever change him and the world he knows, that Jason remembers his original but secret intent.

“This is a ground-breaking book that is visually stunning, psychologically hard-hitting, and emotionally mesmerizing . . . As much as the author presents beautiful and telling artwork (both his and the work of other artists), as well as the relief that the creative process brings to his life, he learns unequivocally that he has an illness that cannot be eschewed away by just ‘thinking differently.’ It’s a stellar journey into the harsh reality of mental illness, the resilience of the human spirit, and the healing power of art.”—US Review of Books.

    Falling Down - (Rockstar #1)

I was twelve when I started crushing on him.

I was seventeen when I met him by chance and our connection was made.

Now here I am, twenty-three, and I'm one of the two actresses in the video for his band's latest single.

Jesse Kingston is a tall, dark, and gorgeous temptation I'm finding hard to resist. It ends up not being as simple as doing a job and going home. It can't be when he continually makes his presence known with his not-so-innocent touches and sexy words. There is no avoiding him and after spending so much time with him, I'm not sure I want to.

So, when he proposes a weekend together, knowing I should say no, I throw caution to the wind and instead I say yes. I'm going to ignore the warning signs and do what I normally wouldn't—I'm going to give in to my desire. I'm going to indulge my fantasies and give this sexy rocker what he wants and something he won't forget—me.

The only question is: Is one weekend going to be enough? Will our time end up changing this bad boy? Or will it end up changing me?

I recommend listening to the playlist whenever possible to get the full effect of the story (Listed at the back of the book).

    DISCLAIMER!
If you're unable to suspend disbelief and escape to the Rockstar Land of Fiction, then this book probably isn't for you. This is NOT a dark romance. There will be MINIMAL angst or drama. There will be lots of laughs, frequent dropping of the F-bomb, and crazy monkey sex.

    Blush (Rockstar #2)
You know how people say they woke up in Vegas married and you're like, how the hell could that possibly happen? Who does that? Well, us apparently… and the press is having a field day.

Let's not even get started on the topic of my mother. Then there's my grandpa wanting to meet my new husband—that's not scary at all. On top of that, we're heading out on tour and I'm a nervous wreck—factor in the fact that Jesse's newly changed marital status doesn't seem to be an issue for the groupies. Nothing deters them. Not even the fact that I'm standing right there when they proposition him.

I can handle the press, my mom, and even my grandpa. But the women who are ruining my current mood of "happy", well, they've got another thing coming. It's time to put these women in their place because nobody messes with my happily ever after.

A Very Xander Christmas (Rockstar #3)
The first Rockstar Christmas. A short story—told Xander Style.

He’s my protector, my confidante. Then one night he became more. I want him, I need him, and, if I’m honest with myself, I love him. I just don’t know if he’ll ever see me as more than what we’ve always been: friends. I don’t want to lose him but it’s getting harder and harder to keep my feelings to myself. Should I risk it all or play it safe?

    Cage
She’s my light, my saving grace. The night we came together I knew I could never live without her. I want her to be mine: my lover, my friend. Maybe, if I can get her to see past all the reasons why we shouldn’t be together, she’ll be my forever. It just might be time to turn it up and go for broke.

Description: A psychic interior designer reluctantly agrees to renovate a sexy investor’s abandoned hotel on Loch Sheldrake, a lake rumored to have once been the mob’s body dumping ground.

Interior designer Kate Bardach loves her single girl's lifestyle, living in Manhattan and spending weekends at her lake house. She's passionate about her career, too—reinventing old buildings. But there are some projects she can't take on because of the spirits trapped inside. Kate is psychic—she sees dead people.

Marco Lareci is one of Wall Street's most successful investment brokers who's achieved all of his life's goals—except for finding his soulmate. His latest project, an abandoned resort on Loch Sheldrake, needs a savvy designer to transform the crumbling complex into a boutique hotel. When Marco meets Kate, he can't believe his luck. She's the perfect match for his business and his heart.

Marco's body excites Kate even more than does his renovation project. But he wants more than a casual relationship, and she's not willing to give up her freedom. Plus, the haunting at Marco's resort, a bonafide poltergeist, affects her on an intensely personal level. Kate's aunt disappeared from the place fifty years ago.

Will the spirit doom Kate and Marco's love, or drive them closer together?

Falstaff's Big Gamble by Hank Quense (Strange Worlds Publishing)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by hanque99 (author): I'm the author of Falstaff's Big Gamble. I love rewriting Shakespeare. Or, as I think of it, retelling for the 21st century reader

Description: This fantasy adventure is Shakespeare's Worst Nightmare. It takes two of the Bard's most famous plays and recasts them with fantasy characters. You don't have to know anything about Shakespeare to enjoy this fantasy comedy. Hamlet is now a dwarf, Othello is a dark elf and Falstaff is a human.

If that isn't bad enough, these two tragedies are now comedies with Falstaff, Shakespeare's most popular rogue, thrown in as a bonus. Both Hamlet and Othello are plagued by the scheming Falstaff, a human.

Chasing the Green by Craig Frankel Emilio Iasiello (FEP International)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Author.Emilio (author): Signed hard cover copy sent by author, Emilio Iasiello. Please consider adding this book to your Librarything bookshelf.

Description: Chasing the Green is the story of two brothers who became millionaires in the 1990s while still in their 20's. They were among the first to market electronic terminals for credit card transactions. They were confident and bold, and thus ignored warnings by the government to "respond" to numerous complaints regarding their practices. Ultimately, they were nearly destroyed by the FTC, who sought to demolish their company at the behest of their competitors in the industry. The FIRST EVER case brought by the FTC against an ISO (independent sales organization) in the electronic transaction processing industry!

Chasing the Green is about young ambition in the 1990s, and the intense desire to succeed. It is also about two independent, intensely driven men unready to accept the importance of working in an interdependent world. They learn, late in the game, that when we refuse to acknowledge the demands of others more powerful, we do so at our peril.

Our story centers on two ambitious brothers, Adam and Ross — who, with their friends, build a start-up company into a multi-million dollar empire. It follows not only their triumphs, but their antics (so many funny stories) — and their selfassured camaraderie that would later prove their undoing.

The Life and Times of John Young by Emmett Cahill (Island Heritage Publishing)

    Offered by Galina98: Downsizing

Description: John Young lived every man's dream of the South Seas. Marooned on a tropical island, facing death from his captors, he survived to become a confidant and military advisor to the tough young Hawaiian who one day would unite all the islands of Hawai'i into a kingdom. Married to a relative to the king, Young went on to become one of the alii, the ruling caste of the islands, and in a long and busy lifetime amassed wealth and power. He was the "white alii," and his reputation lived long after his death. Surprisingly, Young's colorful history has been told only in fragments, until now. In this exhaustively researched book, author Emmett Cahill has pulled together the known facts of Young's life in an interesting and informative way. This book will be the definitive work on this fascinating character. While details are sparse on the early part of Young's life - he was born in Lancashire and spent his early life at sea - by the time Young stepped ashore in Hawai'i he was an accomplished seaman, a bosum, and clearly a mature and responsible man recognized as such by the powerful alii and soon-to-be ruler of all Hawai'i, Kamehameha I. Young went on to be Kamehameha's close friend, for ten years governor of the island of Hawai'i, a faithful husband and the father of six children, and grandfather of Hawai'i's beloved Queen Emma. His many contributions to his adopted land were acknowledged at the end of his long life, when he was buried with the other alii in the Royal Mausoleum. This is history at its best, accompanied by superb illustrations by artist-historian Herb Kawainui Kane as well as historical photographs and prints.

Description: This modern classic is the story of intransigent young architect Howard Roark, whose integrity was as unyielding as granite...of Dominique Francon, the exquisitely beautiful woman who loved Roark passionately, but married his worst enemy...and of the fanatic denunciation unleashed by an enraged society against a great creator. As fresh today as it was then, Rand’s provocative novel presents one of the most challenging ideas in all of fiction—that man’s ego is the fountainhead of human progress...

The Light: A Modern-Day Journey for Peace by Judith T. Lambert (Ann Duran Productions)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by JudithLambert (author): Please note this is a Kindle Version Giveaway only and that The Light does not come with award stickers at this time. I hope you'll enjoy the book!

Description: This is a KINDLE Ebook Giveaway only! Understand religion from a fresh perspective? Nourish your soul and be prepared to view God differently? Is global spirituality possible? While many have heard of the Near Death Experience, this book is unique, as it searches for the common thread between us, here, in this world. This is not a book on the afterlife or what happens on the other side. There is another way to view this phenomena. Discovering a global context for the Near Death Experience is exciting. A Modern-Day Journey for Peace, winner of five book awards, moves us to consider if the Light of the Near Death Experience isn’t actually the bedrock of religion and the springboard for a universal connection. This modern-day story melds the innumerable religious experiences into a visual whole. The essence of God becomes globally and tangibly defined. This story uncovers our prevailing spiritual unity despite our world’s seemingly different beliefs. Ultimately, there is a powerful spiritual bond we have with one another. Gods and the names for God have changed in every era, yet one dynamic remains constant—the Light.

    Religion’s Common Denominator? . . .The Light
God does not have a religion.
God does not speak a language.
God does not have a culture.
It is we who require these things.
This is a ground-breaking memoir on the Near Death Experience that unveils the roots to a global spirituality.

    Offered by Galina98: Downsizing

Description: From comics pioneer Scott McCloud, the complete black and white collection of Zot!, featuring never-before-seen artwork and extensive commentary by the author
Long before manga took the American comics market by storm, Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, Making Comics) combined the best ideas from manga, alternative comics, and superheroes into Zot!—a frenetic and innovative exploration of comics' potential that helped set the stage for McCloud's later groundbreaking theoretical work.
Zachary T. Paleozogt lives in "the far-flung future of 1965," a utopian Earth of world peace, robot butlers, and flying cars. Jenny Weaver lives in an imperfect world of disappointment and broken promises—the Earth we live in. Stepping across the portals to each other's worlds, Zot and Jenny's lives will never be the same again.
