Batches Media Country Offered by

Russia Girl by Kenneth Rosenberg

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by IndieNovelist (author): This book is not for everyone. The first half is actually based on a true story of a young woman who was sold into sexual slavery in Istanbul. This reality is quite brutal in places. That said, in my story, the heroine is transformed into a survivor who will do whatever it takes to exact her own form of justice. If this sounds up your alley, by all means take a look! As an independently published novel, any review can make a huge difference. Thanks! Kenneth Rosenberg

Description: A farm girl sold for sex takes on the criminal gang who enslaved her.

Born into poverty in the heart of Eastern Europe, Natalia Nicolaeva dreams of a better life. When she is offered a job abroad, however, the promise of the outside world is as terrifying as it is thrilling. After gathering the courage to leave her tiny village, it doesn’t take long before Natalia’s worst fears are confirmed. Kidnapped and forced into prostitution, Natalia eventually manages to escape. Unfortunately, she soon comes to realize that if she ever wants her life back, she must single-handedly take on the entire criminal gang who enslaved her. Be warned, this story is gritty and raw, but guaranteed to keep your pulse pounding.

Russia Girl is the first in a series of international thrillers following Natalia’s exploits. It is in this volume that we learn how she is transformed from an innocent farm girl into a lethal dispenser of vigilante justice. This is a novel about the pain in the hearts of those made to suffer, the power of family to heal, and ultimately the courage of one girl determined to survive.

True Crime Stories: 12 Shocking True Crime Murder Cases (Vol 12) by Jack Rosewood

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by kekmaw (publisher): This is a review copy of the eBook

Description: In the following book you will be introduced to twelve shocking true crime cases that will keep you engage and turning the pages even as you become disturbed by the depths of the depravity some of these criminals have demonstrated. These twelve cases cover 100 years of crime history over several different countries, demonstrating once more that serious crime is a phenomenon that knows no boundaries.

One of the major themes of this volume is crimes against the most vulnerable people in our society, including the elderly and the young. You will read about a case in Indiana where a twelve-year-old girl was brutally tortured and murdered, not by a deranged pedophile or a career criminal, but by girls her own age who let their undeveloped minds and peer pressure get out of hand.

The bizarre case of a serial killer who targeted elderly women in Australia is also profiled, demonstrating that not only are killers driven by diverse motives, many of which will be impossible for most of us to understand, but also that not all serial killer victims are society’s “throw aways.” You will also read about two contestants for the “worst parent of all-time award.” These two separate cases involved men, who instead of protecting and caring for their children, ultimately played major roles in the horrible, painful deaths of their children.

Educate yourself on the world of true crime and learn that not everything is always as it seems. Follow the criminal investigations as detectives from around the world broke some of the most baffling true crime cases of the last 100 years.

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by MarkMcCabe (author): This book is available in epub, mobi or pdf format. This is my debut epic fantasy novel which has just been released this month. I would welcome some reviews.

Description: New Release Fantasy: A desperate flight set against the rich tapestry of a world slowly descending into chaos.

A struggle for supremacy amongst Ilythia's guardian wizards while nations teeter on the brink of war.

A chase for the ages that will keep you glued to the page.

This is epic fantasy at its most enthralling.

A page-turner that will draw you in and keep you reading into the wee hours.

Accept Your Fate Or Start a Fight That Is Doomed to Fail?

When Sara is kidnapped and brought to Ilythia to serve the megalomaniacal interests of a renegade mage, the whole world shifts on its axis.

Pursued by the mage's allies and with little hope of avoiding recapture, she finds herself alone, with nowhere to run to, nowhere to hide and no one to turn to.

Her fate seems certain — unless she can somehow contact one of the other Guardian wizards, both of whom are now engaged in a fight to the death with their former colleague.

As the flames of war begin to consume the region through which they must travel, and with malevolent forces hot on their trail, the net slowly closes in on Sara and the young lad who befriends her.

And what of Algaria? With their unprepared army in full retreat and a murderous foe leaving a bloody trail of death and destruction in their wake as they sweep across the land, the walls of their capital will soon be all that stands between them and their seemingly inevitable fate.

But did the mage get more than he bargained for when he chose Sara to be his innocent victim?

The fate of Algaria, indeed of all Ilythia, will depend on this one girl and her desperate struggle for survival.

Avoiding Capture is One Thing, Fighting Back Is Something Altogether Different

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book and my other titles to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: A mystery novel, but also a satire of religious mystery novels (ie. if you are offended by mild profanity or an irreverent rabbi, please do not request.)

From the jacket:
Two elderly spinster sisters––Florence and Lorraine––have lived together ever since the death of their wealthy father, living on generous stipends provided in his will that continue until one of them marries––at which time that sister is cut off financially. The sisters’ family is shaken up when Florence invites them to her wedding. The morning after the wedding, Florence is found dead in her bed. Was it an asthma attack as her new husband and the police believe or did someone enter her room in the middle of the night and suffocate the old woman with a pillow? Local amateur sleuth Rabbi Jacob Kappelmacher is brought in to investigate the suspicious death. He soon discovers that all of the sisters’ relatives stayed overnight following the wedding and could have strangled the old woman in her sleep. So could have the bridegroom. But who did it? And why? With no money and no motive, why would anyone kill the old woman? Rabbi Kappelmacher begins his investigation by interviewing all of the interested parties, intent on figuring out the convoluted and devious crime––and the sinister culprit behind it.

Not only does his Vitality energy inexplicably save her life, she may be the missing link in the Keepers’ quest to restore Similitude—the Betrayers’ manufactured weapon deadly to Keepers.

Despised by her own brood, Jordan’s mysterious ability and a wicked set of street smarts have kept her alive—along with the havoc she’s been forced to wreak on humans as a means of creating dark energy. Against his better judgement, Curtis is helplessly drawn to this enigma of a woman, who defies the logic of his trusty computers. Too, despite a lifetime of mistrust and her soldier’s survival instincts, Jordan can’t help falling for this at times awkward but genuine man who offers her what she’s always yearned for—love and an opportunity for a better life.

But in a race against time and a brood master hell-bent on destruction, love and loyalty will come under fire—within the brood and the clan. Can Jordan find the courage to embrace her future and find love? Or will she betray the clan and herself as the Keepers wage what may be their final battle to save the human race?

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): PDF sent by author. Please consider adding this book and my other titles to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future.

Description: On the outside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a pillar of the community: the youngest division chief at his hospital, a model son to his elderly parents, fiercely devoted to his wife and two young daughters. On the inside, Dr. Jeremy Balint is a high-functioning sociopath—a man who truly believes himself to stand above the ethical norms of society. As long as life treats him well, Balint has no cause to harm others. When life treats him poorly, he reveals the depths of his cold-blooded depravity.

At a cultural moment when the media bombards us with images of so-called sociopaths who strive for good and criminals redeemed by repentance,The Mask of Sanity offers an antidote to implausible tales of evil gone right. In contrast to fictional predecessors like Dostoyevesky's Raskolnikov and Camus' Mersault, Dr. Balint is a man who already has it all —and will do everything in his power, no matter how immoral, to keep what he has.

Kisses When I Get Home by Richard E. Klein (Dumb Dickie Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by vickilesage (author): Richard E. Klein, editor of this book, hopes you enjoy this collection of real-life letters written by his uncle Walter and Walter's fiancee, Rita, during World War II. If you enjoy the book, please consider leaving a review so other readers can discover Walter and Rita's story!

Description: In the midst of wartime, love grows…

Just a few short weeks after getting engaged, Walter Klein is drafted into the army. Rita, his charming fiancée, puts on a brave face and writes to him every day during their separation. More than a war story, Kisses When I Get Home offers a glimpse of life in America during World War II, as seen through the eyes of the young lovers. Rita’s vivid and articulate descriptions of daily life and Walter’s steady devotion and tales of his army experiences bring the era alive.

As Walter and Rita deal with obstacles to their upcoming marriage as well as personal tragedy, their love remains strong. Nearly every letter ends with "I love you very very much" and "I miss you very very much."

The box of treasured letters remained hidden on a musty basement shelf until after their deaths, when Walter’s nephew Richard discovered them. Faded and brittle, they preserved a genuine depiction of life and courtship through the eyes of two incredibly special people.

This collection of love letters from a simpler era will appeal to women and men of all ages. History buffs, military families, or anyone who has ever been in love will want to read the epistolary tale of Walter and Rita Klein.

On September 11, 2001, our nation experienced a horrific tragedy. More than 2,700 lives were lost as the World Trade Centers collapsed into rubble, making it the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil.

But did the Twin Towers have to fail? Weren’t they designed to withstand the impact of a jet airliner? Why did the fires ignited by the jet engines burn hot enough to soften the structural steel beams, causing the upper floors to buckle inward and drop onto the lower floors, shattering them into dust?

This book exposes the deadly conflict of interest that led to shortcuts in fire safety features during the construction of the World Trade Center. Motivated by greed and hubris, someone took a deadly gamble—and lost.

Dr. Richard E. Klein, Associate Professor Emeritus of the University of Illinois, shares the compelling story of his personal experience with the World Trade Center and its structural engineers. He explains technical concepts in a clear way, using analogies and simple sketches so that anyone can understand them. In a logical progression of engineering concepts such as aerodynamic drag, wind-induced sway, and feedback systems, he lays the groundwork for understanding how a chain reaction of arrogant decisions led to a shocking and indisputable conclusion.

Through The Deadly Gamble, Professor Klein delivers a powerful historical lesson for our country: the danger of trusting people in positions of responsibility to make responsible decisions.

But just as the suffocating pressures of everyday life threaten to overwhelm Dale, she leaves on a work trip to Thailand. Working on a landfill site halfway around the world, she unexpectedly becomes captivated by a neighbouring village and its inhabitants. She readily adopts their deep, spiritual connection to the earth. Amidst the tranquility, she finally finds a place where she belongs. A place that feels like home. With her panic attacks replaced by transcendent experiences, how can Dale return to Calgary, knowing that everything will be the same? Could she actually discard her marriage, her career, and her family? Can she figure out what’s best for her and what’s best for the earth?

The Game of VORs by Andrew Orange

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by Andrew_Orange (author): Greetings!
My pen name is Andrew Orange.
Happy to send you my book in English (mobi, epub, pdf, whatever you prefer).
Please, consider adding this book to your LibraryThing bookshelf.

Description: "The Game of VORs is gritty, tragic, and very emotional... a suspenseful, coming of age story in a dark world." — Readers' Favorite Five Stars

"I would recommend this to any person interested in twisted political discrepancies or learning about different takes on identity and morality." — LitPick

"The author creates a believable world, albeit a bit gruesome at times, and delivers the opposite of the typical view of nobility by expertly merging elements of mystery and suspense..." — IndieReader

"What strikes me the most about this book is the quality of its dialogues: they feel authentic and add a sense of realness in a dystopian world." — Goodreads

"Speaking of reader experience, I can only say that this was a high class read that I enjoyed greatly, and the translation is so skillful that it wasn’t at all clear that it was a translation at all.
I see that other reviewers have compared the book to some modern YA books; personally I found it was most highly comparable to Dune; a militaristic aristocracy, an ostensibly innocuous heir who will turn out to change everything, a feared outclass with paranormal abilities and their own set of rules, a harsh and unforgiving environmental setting — we were just missing the worms.
In short, the book exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it on its own merit."
— Amazon

But a pair of tragic events threw him into a bottomless depression, and he retreated into the practice of family law. Now, he tries to settle cases in ways that make everyone happy. He’s a nicer person, but has he lost his edge?

His kinder, gentler life is disrupted when the police arrest his estranged twin sister, Carly. She’s accused of shoving her husband off a cliff into the storm-tossed Pacific Ocean. Carly, deaf since birth, refuses to be defended by anyone other than her twin brother. If Garrett can’t keep this new stress from pushing him back into depression, the defense will fail, condemning his sister to an isolated life in prison, cut off from the deaf community she needs.

The King of Cats by De Kenyon (Wonderland Press)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by dknippling (author): If you're looking for plot twists, dark magic, friendship, loyalty, betrayal, sword fights, horrible monsters, and adventure, then this is what you're looking for. With cats :)

This is about the same level as The Bartimaeus Trilogy. It was written for advanced middle-grade readers who don't want to read about romance and high school drama. Lots of good vocab words for that level, too. Adult readers of Sword & Sorcery tales or The Three Musketeers will also enjoy.

Description: Whose friendship matters most in the land of dreams?

Ferntail the cat and his friends have been summoned to the capital of dreams. Why? No one explained, but it seemed foolish to decline. Perhaps the King of Cats would like to recognize them for their brave and valiant deeds.

Or perhaps the King of Cats needs their help.

The nearby Kingdom of Mice has been overthrown, and suspicions abound. Who is undermining the land of dreams?

Only Ferntail can find out.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by TammyFerebee (author): ***I can gift you an ebook via Amazon. I do not have a PDF file to send. Thank you.***

!!!TRIGGER WARNING!!!

“Born This Way” is a novella. It’s a dark tale of a young gay teen, raised in a religious small town in the South. The themes are controversial and the subject matter is heavy and mature. Also, though I am an LGBT supporter, my character encounters some bullying, so you will read some offensive language and slurs.

Description: Being yourself should never come at this price.

Joseph is the son anyone would wish to have—anyone except his pastor father, that is. Joseph is gay, and where he comes from, his sexual orientation makes him a pariah. Tormented by the incorrigible denizens of his unprogressive Southern town, Joseph finds himself desperate for support from other members of the LGBT community. He turns to the internet with the hope of finding it, and, unexpectedly, Joseph finds more. Bruce.

An unlikely virtual friendship between Joseph and Bruce grows into something more, leading to a seemingly fated meeting. Joseph’s future suddenly looks brighter than ever, but no one could’ve ever predicted what would transpire after the two finally meet.

As I expand into commercial marketing, I'm seeking additional reviews. I will start the production of an audiobook edition soon. Note, I will also make a small number of copies of the paperback version available via Library Thing.

Born poor in Juárez, Mexico, Ozzie Delgadillo knew he was destined for greater things. In childhood, he survived a deadly disease, a demonic encounter, and a recklessly abusive father. As he grows into adolescence, he learns the skills of dangerous railroad work. He outsmarts local cops who want to kill him. He is in love with his teacher. At 18 he leaves home. In Los Angeles, he enjoys the rewards of enormous success: money, romance, glamour, and temptation . . .

But the moral compass of his devout mother, mystical incidents, and a near-death experience make him question his path. A priest won’t exorcise invading spirits. Yikes! Now what? Ozzie finds a spiritual teacher. Focusing his charisma into service, he travels in South America, bringing joyful spiritual awakening to many. Through him, spirit works miracles of healing. With a prayer and a touch, he clears a man’s incurable convulsions.

Description: Dedicated since ancient times to the study of interactions between Life processes and the environmental influences of our Earth-world home, and recognized by Charles Darwin as 'the Queen of Sciences', Geography has provided an epistemological store of knowledge relating to past human experiences, whether propitious or doleful in nature. This pool of wisdom recorded in the Language of Geographical connectivity, could be of great potential value in guiding decisions, and the formulation of remedial strategies required to redress the pernicious effects of human cupidity and reckless exploitation of human and physical resources. But, the discipline of Geography has become an isolated and fractured science, at a time when it could be called upon to counter the destructive effects of systemic problems, such as climate change. The world is at a crossroads, reeling in shock from the traumatic effects of war, clouded with anxiety about the future.

She emerged within a dark sea of green, shielding her eyes against the crescent moon’s pale blaze. The twinkling stars hummed softly, discordant against the chattering birds below. The lush leaves rippled in the breeze, tempting Fi to dip her toes in for a swim. The wind blew at her back and she turned east to face it. The fresh air carried the salty spray of the Shimmering Sea. Although she could not see it, she knew it was right there. Her ears caught the distant waves crashing against the shore. One last step. She thought.

The Second Mountain by David Brooks (Random House)

Offered by RandomHouse (publisher): Enter for your chance to win one of 25 copies of THE SECOND MOUNTAIN by David Brooks!

Description: Everybody tells you to live for a cause larger than yourself, but how exactly do you do it? The bestselling author of The Road to Character explores what it takes to lead a meaningful life in a self-centered world.

Every so often, you meet people who radiate joy—who seem to know why they were put on this earth, who glow with a kind of inner light. Life, for these people, has often followed what we might think of as a two-mountain shape. They get out of school, they start a career, and they begin climbing the mountain they thought they were meant to climb. Their goals on this first mountain are the ones our culture endorses: to be a success, to make your mark, to experience personal happiness. But when they get to the top of that mountain, something happens. They look around and find the view . . . unsatisfying. They realize: This wasn’t my mountain after all. There’s another, bigger mountain out there that is actually my mountain.

And so they embark on a new journey. On the second mountain, life moves from self-centered to other-centered. They want the things that are truly worth wanting, not the things other people tell them to want. They embrace a life of interdependence, not independence. They surrender to a life of commitment.

In The Second Mountain, David Brooks explores the four commitments that define a life of meaning and purpose: to a spouse and family, to a vocation, to a philosophy or faith, and to a community. Our personal fulfillment depends on how well we choose and execute these commitments. Brooks looks at a range of people who have lived joyous, committed lives, and who have embraced the necessity and beauty of dependence. He gathers their wisdom on how to choose a partner, how to pick a vocation, how to live out a philosophy, and how we can begin to integrate our commitments into one overriding purpose.

In short, this book is meant to help us all lead more meaningful lives. But it’s also a provocative social commentary. We live in a society, Brooks argues, that celebrates freedom, that tells us to be true to ourselves, at the expense of surrendering to a cause, rooting ourselves in a neighborhood, binding ourselves to others by social solidarity and love. We have taken individualism to the extreme—and in the process we have torn the social fabric in a thousand different ways. The path to repair is through making deeper commitments. In The Second Mountain, Brooks shows what can happen when we put commitment-making at the center of our lives.

Whiskers in the Dark by Rita Mae Brown (Bantam)

Offered by RandomHouse (publisher): Enter to win a hardcover copy of Rita Mae Brown's latest Mrs. Murphy mystery from Penguin Random House!

Description: Death stalks the Blue Ridge Mountains as a centuries-old mystery resurfaces and murder mars the lead-up to an annual beagle competition, in a thrilling new tale from Rita Mae Brown and her feline co-author Sneaky Pie Brown.

“As feline collaborators go, you couldn’t ask for better than Sneaky Pie Brown.”—The New York Times Book Review

A massive nor’easter has hit northern Virginia, where Mary Minor “Harry” Harristeen joins groundskeeping efforts at the National Beagle Club at Aldie as the date for its springtime Hounds for Heroes veterans’ benefit approaches. Harry’s fellow volunteers, including her oldest friend, Susan Tucker, comprise a spirited group of hunting enthusiasts, some former service members themselves. But things take a sinister turn when, after a routine tree cleanup along the Club’s hunting trails, retired foreign services officer Jason Holzknect is found dead, throat slit from ear to ear. Soon enough, another murder in their midst jolts the preparations, convincing Harry that the killer is familiar with the Club—and must be close by, masked in plain sight.

The intrigue extends to the grounds of Harry’s beloved local church, where the identity of an eighteenth-century skeleton wearing precious pearls remains a mystery. The anonymous woman’s neck had been snapped, and marks on the grave where her body was secreted indicate that someone recently tried to remove it, leading Harry to question how well she really knows those around her.

As always, Harry’s crime-solving cats Mrs. Murphy and Pewter, and Tee Tucker the Corgi share her determination to sniff out the foes among friends, even those long buried. Harry will need her four-legged companions’ help more than ever: a ghostly beagle only they can see may hold the key to the culprit.

Description: When Simone Fischer, a successful novelist moves back to her home in the British Virgin Islands, the peaceful life she has created for herself is interrupted by Charlie, a family friend who arrives hoping for a respite from his own life. As their friendship deepens Simone starts to see a world outside of her own.
Set to the backdrop of Southern California and the lush old growth mahogany of the Sage Mountain National Forest, Dear Simone takes us on a journey of laughter, love, loss, and guilt as family secrets are revealed, an old love is reintroduced, and Simone, struggling with her past and the possibilities of her future, realizes she may not be worthy of the love Charlie so desperately wants to give.

Excerpts from Dear Simone;

It’s the first day of spring in the British Virgin Islands. It’s early yet, I can’t see it, but it’s there sitting just beyond the water line. Soon it will start to show itself as it tiptoes over the islands from the East. One by one rocks, boulders, and the various islander tree will illuminate with pink and orange flames as the fingers of the morning sun crawl across its playground. This is my favorite part of the day, it always has been, and this porch where I now sit holds my favorite view. Every day we are here I sit before they wake and I watch, I wait, and I listen.
I listen to the warblers and the martins in the surrounding trees. I can hear the insects munching on the foliage of the forest floor, through the grass of the lawn, and as they crawl up the trunks of the ancient mahogany. This morning as I watch the horizontal line of the ocean become a little less black and the sky a little more pink, I can hear Ramy meandering up the drive. Beneath the shadowed sky and the canopy of never-ending tamarind trees the gentle pads of his paws touch the cement. His stalking is done. The fruit of his hunt is clamped firmly between his teeth. Two quick hearts still beat, one fainter, slower, but nonetheless still alive. I can hear the friends of the yellow beauty warbling above reminding the tabby of his formidable offense as the unfortunate male bobs his head up and down beside his punctured chest. As they pass beneath the final tamarind that lines the half-mile trek from the Caldwell property down the hill his step quickens across the gravel to reach the dew covered grass and the East facing porch where I sit. The porch, with its view of the advancing sun waking over the water, holds hanging pots containing remnants of last spring’s herb garden, the basil, mint, and thyme left to fend for themselves as they look upon burgeoning lemon trees in envy. I look to my left to see, squeezing through a hole in the miniature white garden fence, a black and brown speckled paw step through the frame of overgrown pixie roses planted into the earth.
My friend makes his way under the green painted mahogany and glass patio table to stop before the coco coir mat that greets him with the black letters he cannot read.
I watch over my shoulder as the warbler’s head lands in the middle of HELLO. The cat pauses for a moment, looks down at the bird, up to the locked Dutch door leading into the kitchen, and then to me. She isn’t home yet. The man in the blue hat told him so.
He is a good cat, loyal, a friendly chap. He gets vexed with me sometimes but just like the impending death of the warbler, I can’t blame him. He’s been a good friend, a patient one, and now I must ask him for one last favor.
I feel bad for the bird, his death is futile. With the full belly provided by Illya Caldwell down the hill, the cat turns away to disappear back through the roses and down the hill as the last bit of life abandons the welcome home gift procured in her favorite color.

Sunglasses kept the rays from hurting his pupils as he looked up to the clear blue sky. Past three in the afternoon the sun hid behind the genip tree to his left. Though partly shaded, the air warmed his skin. His hands played in the water at his sides and brought droplets of water to his stomach as he floated on the vinyl raft in the pool. He looked over to Simone, her head was still buried in her book. The same book she had been carrying around for a couple of days, but not actually reading until now. She kept him company with a distant physicality and nothing more as she hadn’t raised her head or uttered a word.
On a towel in the grass by the pool she laid propped up on her elbows, with her signature half bun keeping the hair away from her face and away from the engrossing book. He got a good glance at her cleavage as the collar of her tank top succumbed to gravity. He didn’t mind the silence but wondered what readings held her attention. He rolled off the vinyl raft with a splash, leaving a layer of his skin with it.
She heard a splash as a drop of water landed in the middle of her page. She looked up, the purple raft, empty, moved with the rolls of his wake. Charlie popped up in front of her gripping the edges of the pool with his hands and crossed his arms for support. He heard her gasp in quietly in surprise and grinned at her with a coy smirk.
“What are you reading?” he asked and moved his wet sunglasses to the top of his wet plastered hair. They were both silently shocked the glasses didn’t land at the bottom of the pool but she answered without hesitation.
“Did you know Shakespeare didn’t actually write Romeo and Juliet?” she said.
“Yeah, didn’t some Duke write it all?”
“That’s speculative,” she said mildly amused. “What I mean is it’s actually based on this two thousand year old story by Ovid.” She closed the book keeping a hand in between the pages and held the front of it up for him to see. Metamorphoses, Book Four. His eyes narrowed, she couldn’t tell if it was confusion or interest. “He was a Roman poet and the story is call Pyramus and Thisbe.” His eyes perked up.
He nodded his head slowly with an amused smile. “I know who Ovid is Simone.”
“Oh. Of course.”
“Isn’t that the play they do in A Midsummer Night’s Dream?” he asked.
“Yes,” she said delighted. He winked at her and a smile appeared on her face before she turned back down to her book. He lingered there for a moment without her noticing his eyes making their way back down to her cleavage. They moved with her breath and slowed his to match.
Ramy’s meow appeared from nowhere as the cat plopped himself down in front of Simone blocking Charlie’s view. Simone continued to read and scratched his head briefly. The cat watched him with squinted eyes as his tail slapped against the towel. Charlie met his glare. Slowly he propelled himself backwards. His head ducked back and his back arched in a circle under the water before he came to the surface. His sunglasses fell to the bottom but of the pool, he didn’t care. He met the cats gaze again and held it until Ramy rolled over towards Simone and meowed. Charlie went under the water to fetch his sunglasses.
That night during a sober dinner between the two of them he admitted, with his hands clasped in front of him and his head a little lower than necessary, to breaking her lamp. He offered to pay or replace, whatever would make her happy in the hopes of rectifying the broken Tiffany. She stared at him, the blank look could mean anything he thought.
Shock, anger, bewilderment?
Finally she spoke in a low tone. “Do you really think I’d keep an authentic Tiffany lamp hidden away in a bedroom?” She took a sip of her water keeping her eyes on his until he broke and exhaled towards the ceiling. She smiled and started laughing, mostly to herself. He looked at her with mild contempt and took a bite of his food.
“You think that’s funny?” he asked. “Do you know how terrified I’ve been all day to say that to you?” His eye brows tried to meet his hairline without success, imploring his want of sympathy with a cocked smile.
“I’m sorry,” she said and she was, but continued to smile at him amused. He simply raised and lowered his eyebrows quickly in response, bringing his glass of water to his lips. “What time did you peal yourself off the floor and make it up to your room last night?” she said.
“What?”
“You don’t remember?” She was enjoying herself.
“I remember you throwing up in the bushes beside the drive way.”
“No, I didn’t.”
“Mm hmmm.” He nodded his head. “Yes you did, but I don’t know what you're talking about. Me being on the floor.”
With a smirk and her glass in her hand she nodded with wide eyes as it came to him. She saw it in his face, his eyes narrowed and a slight tinge of pink appeared in his cheeks. It was the same look she had a moment ago when he saw her remember her incident in the bushes. They laughed amused with each other and finished their dinner of cold sandwiches and water.
“The lamp in the library is a real Tiffany though,” she said as she rose to put her dishes in the sink. “So be careful.”

The Pied Piper: Is John Piper and New Calvinism Destroying the Church? by Enoch Burke (Burke Publishing)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by christian2 (publisher): Free copies of this book are available from the publisher to readers willing to post reviews on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk! If you would like a free review copy, email info@thepiedpiperbook.com

Description: Heresy is “adherence to a religious opinion contrary to church dogma”. This book argues that John Piper’s doctrine of Christian hedonism is a novel invention, and one not found in any of the church’s historical affirmations of the faith.

Piper has largely popularised his doctrine among young people, preaching to tens of thousands at the annual Passion Conferences in Atlanta, Georgia. The author claims that many of these young people are unwilling and unable to make a thorough examination of what John Piper really believes.

The Pied Piper takes a close look at Piper’s doctrine, examining its antinomian and ecumenical flavour. It also traces the legacy of Piper’s teaching in those closest to him, his own family. New Calvinism’s influence on the wider church is also assessed, with a focus in particular on Northern Ireland, once described as “the last bastion of Christian truth in Europe. The book argues for a return to the sincerity of true faith, practical church discipline, and a pure gospel.

Author: Enoch Burke holds a first-class BA in History and Politics (NUI Galway), a Bachelor of Theological Studies, a Diploma in Music (RIAM) and is currently completing a Masters degree. He resides in Castlebar in the West of Ireland and has taught at second-level for 10 years.

Enoch is a past Auditor of the NUI Galway Christian Union and preaches and teaches in his local church. This is his first book.

On My Road to Heaven - A Bold and Joyful Life by Ozzie Delgadillo (John Cawley under More Than Meets the I, LLC)

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by JohnCawley (publisher): I am the editor and publisher. The author wanted his entertaining message of joyful encouragement and wisdom to reach a wider audience. As I expand into commercial marketing, I'm seeking additional reviews. I will start the production of an audiobook edition soon.

I personally prefer the intimacy of physical books. I am happy to make this small quantity of the paperback version available to Library Thing members. I hope those who select this, rather than the ebook version, will consider writing a review.

Description: When life gave him wealth and glamour, he chose enlightenment instead . . .

Later, he loses his wealth and faces cancer and a stroke. He practices the teachings, accepting and loving it all. He fulfills his life purpose—enlightenment. . .

In this memoir, you’ll discover how to:
- Find and follow your life’s true purpose,
- Enjoy life right where you are, even in challenges,
- Practice unconditional love for yourself and others,
- Discover joy in serving others,
- Realize you are both ordinary and divine,
- Follow spirit to create inner riches,
- Much, much more!

On My Road to Heaven, A Bold and Joyful Life is a tell-all memoir from a remarkable hero to many. If you like far-flung adventures, romantic quests, unconventional gurus, and inspiration, then you’ll love Ozzie Delgadillo’s amazing true-life story.

Description: After their victory in Delmar, Aidan and his companions look toward their ultimate goal – stopping their nemesis, Sirak, once and for all. Sirak has taken over territories in the west, including the city of Min Lenoras, turning the inhabitants into the dreaded Ther-lor – mindless, yet nearly unstoppable creatures. If left unchecked, Sirak will continue to use the Dyn’osi ritual to convert entire cities to his cause, creating his vision of a perfect world.

But instead of being united against this terrible evil, the world is instead in a state of turmoil. People have formed a mob outside the Mage’s Tower in Lorehaven, demanding that the mages be held responsible for the forbidden magic that created the Ther-lor. Elves and dwarves distrust men, men distrust each other – the world is in no shape to battle the spreading horror of Sirak’s twisted vision. Knowing that he and his companions cannot stop Sirak themselves, Aidan works to get the people of the world on his side.

But along the way, Aidan will face an unforeseen circumstance leading to the disappearance of one of his closest companions. Driven to near-insanity, Aidan tries desperately to uncover the truth and save the companion, but along the way he finds more than he bargained for when a new foe emerges and Aidan realizes that there are more obstacles in their way than he thought.

Offered by AppelJacobM (author): Paperback sent directly by author. Please consider adding this book and my other titles to your Librarything bookshelf, as this enables more giveaways in the future. **Note that only one free copy is available per person; thanks in advance for understanding**

Appel’s seventh collection. We meet a psychiatrist dabbling with infidelity during a crisis in which rain turns into truth serum, a Finnish-American soldier charged with facilitating his commanding officer’s extra-marital affair, and a couple transporting a wealthy, “locked-in” patient across the Piedmont to his new nursing home. The Light: A Modern-Day Journey for Peace by Judith T. Lambert (Ann Duran Productions)

This book is an eBook, not a physical book.

Recipient is asked to provide a review in exchange for this book.

Offered by JudithLambert (author): 5 EBooks. Books currently do not come with Award Stickers.

Description: Understand religion from a fresh perspective? Nourish your soul and be prepared to view God differently? Is global spirituality possible? While many have heard of the Near Death Experience, this book is unique, as it searches for the common thread between us, here, in this world. This is not a book on the afterlife or what happens on the other side. There is another way to view this phenomena. Discovering a global context for the Near Death Experience is exciting.  A Modern-Day Journey for Peace, winner of five book awards, moves us to consider if the Light of the Near Death Experience isn’t actually the bedrock of religion and the springboard for a universal connection. This modern-day story melds the innumerable religious experiences into a visual whole. The essence of God becomes globally and tangibly defined. This story uncovers our prevailing spiritual unity despite our world’s seemingly different beliefs. Ultimately, there is a powerful spiritual bond we have with one another. Gods and the names for God have changed in every era, yet one dynamic remains constant—the Light.

Religion’s Common Denominator? . . .The Light

God does not have a religion.

God does not speak a language.

God does not have a culture.

It is we who require these things.

This is a ground-breaking memoir on the Near Death Experience that unveils the roots to a global spirituality.

*Please note Print and Ebooks do not come with award stickers at this time.

The Road to Vermilion Lake by Vic Cavalli (Harvard Square Editions)

Offered by VicCavalli (author): Enter for a chance to win a paperback copy of The Road to Vermilion Lake, signed by the author.

Description: “The novel tells the story of . . . Thomas Neal Tems, a blaster’s assistant and first-aid attendant who lives and works on a construction site beside a glorious, remote lake. The site is being developed by a Swiss company into an ecologically friendly village, and Thomas begins a romance with the talented and imaginative architect who designed the site, a devout Catholic. The world that the characters must navigate, however, is decidedly not a romantic one. It is marked by painful past experiences, dysfunctional families, tragic accidents, alcoholism, and drug overdoses, all of which seem to derive from an inability to reach beyond the superficiality of existence. And yet, this is a world of second chances, for those who desire to change their imaginative perspective, to seek a sense of depth and enchantment that is deeply embedded in the tangible world, particularly in the body and in the natural world, as well as in the creative world of contemplative thought.”
